Position Title: Reliability Test Engineer / Assistant Manager – Room Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

Role Purpose
To plan, execute, and supervise reliability, performance, and design verification testing for Room Air Conditioners (Split and Window types) and Heat Pumps. The role ensures adherence to relevant test standards, execution of Design Verification and Validation Plans (DVVP), and drives continuous product quality improvement through FMEA, field failure analysis, and benchmarking activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and oversee reliability, durability, and performance testing of Room Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps.
• Implement Design Verification and Validation Plans (DVVP) as per design and reliability objectives.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards: IS 302-1, IEC 60335-1, IEC 60335-2-40, and IS/IEC 60529.
• Perform tests for voltage variation, endurance, and environmental conditions (high/low ambient temperatures) per internal requirements.
• Develop test standards and ensure test methods address potential failure modes under simulated field conditions.
• Record, maintain, and analyze test data, log sheets, calibration records, and test reports with accuracy and traceability.
• Support system and component-level Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
• Conduct field failure analysis to identify root causes, corrective, and preventive actions.
• Benchmark competitor products and components to aid product and component design improvements.
• Coordinate with R&D project team, Quality, and Customer Service teams for test findings, validation, and customer feedback integration.
• Supervise lab technicians, allocate daily work, and ensure strict adherence to safety and quality procedures.
• Manage preventive maintenance and calibration schedules for all lab equipment and maintain equipment history cards.
• Ensure confidentiality and security of all test data, documents, and product information.
• Work in rotational shifts based on testing schedules.

Qualification and Technical Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 3–7 years of experience in product reliability testing or validation, preferably in the Room Air Conditioner or Heat Pump industry.
• Strong understanding of Room AC and Heat Pump systems, subcomponents, and their functional relationships.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, control circuits, and instrumentation.
• Proficiency in executing DVVP, performing FMEA, and conducting field failure / root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with benchmarking methodologies and competitor product evaluations.
• Sound knowledge of IS 302-1, IEC 60335-1, IEC 60335-2-40, and IS/IEC 60529 test standards.
• Skilled in MS Office for documentation and data analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage technicians and work cross-functionally.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance, calibration, and laboratory record management systems.
• Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 will be an added advantage.
