Research Manager/Research Associate

The Charlotte Lozier Institute is the 501(c)(3) research and education institute of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, an organization dedicated to electing candidates and pursuing policies that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. In just over a decade, CLI has established itself as a go-to source for accurate and timely research and information on life issues. With a current network of over 70 Associate Scholars from a variety of disciplines, CLI provides pro-life groups and policy makers research-based information of the highest quality on issues including abortion, women’s health, prenatal diagnosis and treatment for the unborn, perinatal hospice, abortion reporting, sex-selection abortion, stem cell research and medicine, and health care policy.

The Research Manager (or Research Associate) supports ongoing research for critical projects that will promote deeper public understanding of the value of human life, motherhood, and fatherhood, and identify policies and practices that will protect life and serve both women's health and family well-being. This position requires someone well-versed in various research tools and methods and able to communicate the results of that work with a high degree of accuracy.

This is a full-time position that reports directly to the CLI Executive Director.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute research, analysis, drafting, and editing of papers for CLI’s Data Analytics Team and other Lozier Institute scholars. Assist in preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals according to each journal’s specifications.
  • Analyze abortion reports released by states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other abortion proponent organizations. Review draft state abortion reporting articles.
  • Provide research and analysis on pro-life policy issues upon request.
  • Support ongoing research into state social support indicia for women and children.
  • Assist in locating and analyzing research reports, identify and discuss basic issues and problems in research approaches.
  • Conduct basic tabulations of data and organize and present research information in a clear and effective manner.
  • Draft and edit articles and papers, as assigned, with a focus on abortion statistics, problems with abortion reporting across the United States, and chemical abortion statistics, for example.
  • Assist Institute staff and scholars with various research projects, as assigned.
  • Work with others in a cooperative environment to secure access to research information and share ideas for improving research.
  • Effectively use common research tools to locate and obtain studies relevant to the work of the Institute.
  • Present research in a clear manner to audiences of peers, media, and policymakers.

Competencies

  • Familiar with various research tools: internet, specialized archives, university-based collections, specialized institutions, government agencies, and other resources.
  • Familiar with basic data collection and categorization methods, including telephone and written surveys, database searches, and library materials.
  • Demonstrated ability in research and communications.
  • Ability to perform website updating functions and to format and post materials.
  • Ability to travel and to communicate with public audiences on occasion.
  • Collegiate-level editing and writing skills.
  • Must be pro-life.
Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Writing ability and experience are essential to the position


Preferred Education/Experience

  • For Research Manager: 5-7 years of experience, with 2-3 years supervisory, preferred.
  • For Research Associate: 2-3 years research-related experience, preferred.


Position Type/Expected Hours

40 hours per week. Occasional weekend and overnight work is not expected.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required to represent CLI at conferences.
