Position Summary

 

The Research Network Administrator holds the responsibility for managing and sustaining the network, servers, databases, and software platforms that underpin survey research activities. 

 This role is crucial for ensuring secure data collection, consistent system performance, and compliance with data privacy and security standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure supporting survey research activities.
  • Administer survey platforms and databases used for data collection and reporting.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity, hardware, and software issues.
  • Ensure data security, backup, disaster recovery, and system availability.
  • Support researchers with survey deployment, user access, and technical issues.
  • Maintain user accounts, permissions, and authentication systems.
  • Collaborate with research teams to implement new technologies and improve survey processes.
  • Document network configurations, system changes, and technical procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable data protection regulations.
  • Perform software updates, patches, and preventive maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in network administration or IT systems support.
  • Knowledge of:
    • TCP/IP networking
    • Windows and/or Linux server administration
    • Database management (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
    • Network security and firewalls
  • Experience supporting research or survey platforms is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  •  

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with survey software such as Qualtrics, REDCap, SurveyMonkey, or LimeSurvey.
  • Understanding of research data management and statistical software.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with virtualization and backup solutions.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.

  • Monitor system uptime and performance.
  • Resolve technical support tickets.
  • Manage network equipment and server infrastructure.
  • Secure sensitive research data.
  • Coordinate software upgrades and testing.
  • Generate system performance reports.
  • Train users on research technology tools.

Work Environment

  • May require occasional after-hours maintenance or on-call support.
