Job Description
The Research Portfolio Administrator is responsible for lifecycle sponsored award management, and for enforcing and complying with all sponsor and University research-related policies and procedures. The portfolio will include contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements from federal agencies, industry sponsors, foundations, and foreign and international entities. The Senior Research Administrator is expected to work closely with faculty and other Principal Investigators (PIs) and researchers. Although the role is expected to function with a great deal of autonomy, the individual will collaborate with colleagues in the department, the HMS Office of Research Administration (ORA), the Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP), and other Harvard and external colleagues as needed. This position requires a high level of collaboration, attention to detail, accuracy, and independent judgement.

This position will be responsible for managing between $5-$10M in sponsored and non-sponsored funding of an assigned faculty portfolio and submitting approximately 25 proposals per year. Responsible for pre- and post-award management; manages portfolio which includes multi and varied grant mechanisms including but not limited to R01, R56, R35, P30, U01, RF1, and various domestic/international sub agreements.
Manage 15+ active grants that range from $50K-$1.5M per award per year. This includes developing detailed budgets with their PIs, reviewing/approving allowable charges onto federal and non-federal funding sources, preparation of complex and varied financial reports that require selection, preparation, and interpretation of data. The position plays a critical role by supporting the investigators so they can put forth strong science and bring in enough funds to support their research and operations. The role also ensures we are in compliance and not place the University at substantial risk.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
