The Slate Plant Ecology Lab at Ohio State University is hiring a full-time Research Project Coordinator to manage laboratory-based research projects designed to improve the success of seed-based restoration strategies. The research requires fine attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to oversee and coordinate multiple projects and research lab staff, ability to anticipate and solve most lab issues with little supervision, preparation of graphs and advanced data analyses, and ability to lead report and/or publication writing efforts. The Research Project Coordinator will lead lab, field and greenhouse research projects and train new and existing research lab staff. The Research Project Coordinator should be an expert at growing plants across a range of experimental settings. Lab and greenhouse work will involve microscopy, taking physiological measurements (e.g., photosynthetic capacity, water use efficiency), taking morphological measurements (e.g., root and leaf scanning), coordinating seed dormancy treatments, and computer work (e.g., data sheet preparation and oversee data entry). Field work will require installation of experimental infrastructure and advanced plant identification skills of native plants at the seedling level.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's Degree in biological or environmental sciences, ecology, or related field or equivalent experience. 5 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 3 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 1 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.

Desired Qualifications

Four years of relevant experience preferred. Experience leading laboratory or greenhouse-based research and mentoring research lab staff is preferred. This experience could include undergraduate technical work, MS thesis related research experience, or other related experiences. Ability to work independently with a LI-COR 6800 is required. Experience with microscopy, plant cultivation, and plant functional traits is preferred. Laboratory, field, and greenhouse work will require the use of programs such as Excel and R for data entry of findings, and plotting.

All candidates should have a background or interest in plant ecology, be able to lift 22.5 kg (50 lbs.), be capable of standing or sitting for long periods of time, as needed, to perform standard laboratory procedures.

The pay range for this job profile is $22.93-29.95. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
