Job Description And Duties

The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory is seeking seasoned scientists with backgrounds in chemistry and/or other science disciplines with experience in analytical chemistry, instrumentation and are passionate about protecting the communities and environment from toxic chemicals. As a Research Scientist III you will have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as a scientific advisor or consultant to other lower-level scientists conducting studies in their specific scientific field of expertise
  • Monitor the progress of small-scale projects performed by lower-level staff (Research Scientists I, II, Staff Chemists, Chemists, Environmental Scientists, and Scientific Aids, Student Interns) to meet the performance objectives of the project
  • Develop and manage specific performance metrics for each project to measure performance outcomes and provide feedback on technical and analytical reports to ensure accuracy and data quality requirements are met
  • Evaluate the scientific methodology of conceiving, planning, and conducting small scale research projects by lower-level staff to ensure the use of appropriate techniques in carrying out the project and interpreting the results
  • Serve as the scientific advisor relating to environmental analytical chemistry on projects in support of DTSC core programs
  • Participate in high profile projects and provide analytical chemistry input to support those projects for DTSC

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

  • Three or more years of research experience desired
  • Three or more years of experience with mass spectrometry and other analytical chemistry techniques and instrumentation preferred
  • One or more years of experience working under a Laboratory Quality Management System
  • Two or more years working with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) desired
  • Two or more years of experience with method development in analytical chemistry or related field preferred
