Position Summary
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 3 YEARS.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a Research Specialist Position. The successful candidate will participate in research activities in the Choby Laboratory. The objective of this position is to serve as a Research Specialist in the Choby Lab. The lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and heteroresistance in Gram-negative bacteria. We require personnel to perform molecular biology and bacterial genetics techniques to manipulate the genome of clinical isolates, and perform assays that measure the frequency of populations in a bacterial culture that is resistant to a particular antibiotic. These manipulations and measurements are used to elucidate mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and phenotypic heterogeneity.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Microbiology laboratory research experience
Experience in bacterial genetics
Evidence of ability to disseminate research findings via peer-reviewed publications and/or external presentations
Experience in murine models of bacterial infection
