Job Description

Obstetrics and Gynecology has an outstanding opportunity for Research Study Coordinator 1 to join their team. The Maternal Fetal Medicine research division is a vibrant group at the University of Washington conducting research on several topics including infectious diseases, maternal immunizations, and immunity. The applicant will work with Dr. Kachikis in her research program investigating transfer of maternal immunity to infants, immunity, infections and vaccines in pregnancy.

About this opportunity

Reporting to Alisa Kachikis, the Research Study Coordinator 1 is responsible for supporting the investigator’s research program by coordinating study activities, managing participant engagement, and assisting with key laboratory processes. It ensures efficient research operations and contributes to the quality and continuity of both clinical and laboratory work.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary role is to support the investigator’s research program, including clinical and basic laboratory research. Depending on experience and interest, this individual will have the opportunity to develop SOPs, oversee student work and participate in other aspects of the research program. We plan to involve this technician in academic opportunities, as appropriate.

  • Participant-Facing Activities (60%): Recruit patients from UW Montlake Maternal and Infant Care Clinic (MICC) and Labor and Delivery (L&D) unit. Conduct informed consent procedures, enroll patients in the study, schedule sample collection and follow up visits.

  • Clinical Data Abstraction (15%): Use EPIC to locate and abstract enrolled patient clinical data into study database.

  • Lab Work (15%): Perform basic processing of blood for serum and plasma; organize samples in the lab freezer using freezer works software; prepare samples for shipment.

  • Administrative (10%): Track and order lab supplies needed for the study. Participate in shared lab cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Percentage work distributions are approximate and may vary from week to week depending on study needs.

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration

  • Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject.

  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference for an individual in a public health or biomedical field (Biology, Biochemistry, etc.) with comfort working with participants, including verbal and written communication.

  • Spanish speaking skills are a plus but are not a requirement.

  • Prior research lab experience is ideal.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$45,288.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$56,124.00 annual
