Resident Engineer

The RE/PM shouldn’t rely on SORs, NCRs in controlling the Contractor.

 He shall prevent such occurrences related to QA/QC before the damage is done.

 He shall actively supervise and control

 the project by immediately removing non-performing staff and gang leaders of the Main contractor with immediate effect

 The RE/PM shall be always focused on the Time/Cost/Quality Parameters of the Project

 The projects are to be completed within the contractual time frame and the RE/PM and engineers of the respective project shall be responsible for the delays.

 The RE/PM must read the full contract documents and act accordingly at site.

 Supervision of the Project: this includes working with and communicating with Contractor, Employer and Third Parties. Resident Engineers/PMs observe and inspect the work to ensure efficiency and accuracy, make sure everyone is safe, and offer advice on day to day activities at the site. They will be leading project and progress meetings, coordinate with Contractor, Employer and third parties.

 Monitoring procurement of materials: They monitor everything from construction materials to equipment, as well as ensure these supplies are available throughout the process taking note of long lead items. They also check the quality of materials and equipment used during construction and plants that are to be installed in the Project.

 Planning for construction: they monitor progress in line with the project schedule and look for obstacles that may delay the project. They also help plan the construction by reviewing the Contract drawings, as well as going to the field to survey the site.

 Evaluating work throughout construction: they make sure everything is going smoothly throughout the building process, including ensuring project specifications and deadlines are being met, inspecting regularly for problems, and solving ways to fix the issues that come up.

Documenting and reporting on construction: Resident Engineers must also write reports, keep detailed field notes, and log activities daily. They also take pictures of the progress of the construction, as well as track, organize, and update documents.

 Directing and guiding the Site Inspectors/Document Controllers in line with the Project requirements.
