Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are currently seeking a Residential Counselor in providing direct assistance, support/supportive counseling and skills training to individuals with intellectual disabilities in a residential facility. Our Residential Counselors are dedicated and compassionate and work in group homes, supported living, in-home, homes of families, and other settings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a human services field such as psychology, sociology, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field; one year of experience in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years of related experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred; related experience in a group home setting preferred. Medication Administration certification preferred; CPR & First Aid preferred. Experience using an electronic health record preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the nature of intellectual disabilities and the role of residential support services. Ability to supervise and provide direct care to consumers in a residential setting; to develop and implement individualized service plans; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to write detailed and comprehensive progress notes preferred; working knowledge of person-centered principles preferred. Time management skills preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
