Residential Counselor: Reentry

SUMMARY:

The Residential Support Specialist/Residential Counselor works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing supervision to adult residents who have been released from prison or jail, some with severe and persistent mental illness. The Residential Support Specialist also supports and assists residents to successfully transition from incarceration into the community, independent living skills and in meeting rehabilitation goals. Residential Support specialist must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity, good judgment, and emotional stability. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some weekend and overnight shifts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Monitors house activities while directly supervising resident actions and movements.

· Provides clients with guidance and support on an informal basis as needed.

· Stay up-to-date on best practices and emerging trends in reentry programs and services

· Provide support services to help individuals navigate the challenges of reentry

· Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients being served.

· Administer medication to all clients.

· Document all medications on Centrally Stored and Destruction Records, create Medication Administration Records as per each doctor order, count and control all medication brought into and out of the facility.

· Maintain a professional working relationship with contract agency staff, doctors, clinicians and caseworkers.

· Follow and uphold all GLOM and facility policies and procedures.

· Provide incoming shift staff with a detailed pass down relating to all issues/clients.

· Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning meetings as related to clients.

· Demonstrates knowledge of crisis management and intervention.

· Any and all other duties as assigned by your supervisor. Essential job functions may be added to, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High School Diploma or GED

· College degree is preferred, but not required.

· Minimum of 1 year of experience in reentry services or related field

· Strong knowledge of the criminal justice system and the challenges faced by individuals reentering society

· Strong understanding of the challenges faced by people reentering society after incarceration

· PPD test for tuberculosis and satisfactory results

· FBI and DOJ criminal background clearances

· Free from state sanctions

· Valid driver license

· CPR/First Aid/BLS certification

· Able to read and write clearly and accurately.

· Act as a team member providing input and reporting observations and concerns in regard to client symptoms and symptom management.

· Demonstrate the ability to act a part of a team and in an appropriate manner in a crisis situation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Able to climb stairs multiple times a day and be able to lift and/or carry 25 pounds or less.

· Able to sit, rise, kneel, squat, twist, pull bend multiple times a day.

· Able to handle hazardous waste (Blood borne pathogens, hospital waste, chemical &infectious) and sharp instruments and needles.

· Able to walk with items in hand, grasp and reach as needed.

· Able to provide as needed bedside care and first aid, as needed.

· Able to perform with repetitive maneuvers and manual dexterity.

Pay: $22.00 per hour
