The position

The Residential Life Manager will work with the Head of Hostel, Dorm Parents, Students and Staff to ensure implementation of a high-quality residential curriculum to inform a rich and comprehensive programme of intellectual, physical, emotional, social and spiritual learning and development for boarders in the Aga Khan Hostel.

The hostel is managed by the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), India, which is ranked amongst the country’s top 10 most respected education and early childhood education brands. Since its establishment in 1955, the hostel’s extensive reach, progressive programmes and emphasis on inclusivity have created a lasting impact on its students and the communities it serves.

Responsibilities
Provide guidance to the team in all facets of hostel life, including the implementation of safeguarding measures and the execution of operational tasks, in accordance with the AKES Residential Curriculum and Residential Standards.
Maintain a safe and positive learning community in residence through active engagement with residents and policy enforcement.
Assist the team in effectively managing the Residential Curriculum and overseeing all other boarding services.
Establish a comprehensive hostel development plan to facilitate ongoing enhancements in all aspects of hostel life and address areas that require improvement.
Conduct specialized training sessions for Heads of Hostel and Dorm Parents and Staff. This training should cover pastoral care, effective communication, safeguarding and wellbeing and strategies for dealing with various situations that may typically arise.
Develop documentation outlining processes and roles to ensure the seamless and efficient operation of the hostel.
Handle and evaluate investigations and disciplinary processes related to student conduct.
Plan and execute events designed to help residents socially and academically and to foster community within the student housing.
Guide staff to plan, organize, promote, supervise, and evaluate student programming events and activities to meet the needs of hostel boarders.
Plan Academic Program, evaluation, analysis & development.
Ensure efficient use of resources and cost-effective operations.
Ensure housing students’ adherence to hostel rules and discipline, also to make frequent rounds in the hostels.
The health and safety of the students is paramount. Ensure that risk assessments are conducted as necessary and that clear emergency procedures are communicated for all teaching and event locations from the outset.
Foster a positive work environment with a good team spirit, including the wider support teams, with student experience at the forefront of all efforts.
Provide ongoing guidance to the team on various aspects of hostel life, including operations and curriculum implementation. Ensure staff members are well-equipped to execute their roles effectively.
Ensure robust safeguarding measures to ensure the safety and security of all children residing in the hostel.
Establish appropriate mechanisms to support the wellbeing of students so that they genuinely feel cared for.
Promote a holistic approach to wellbeing, addressing both physical and mental health aspects.Support the hostel team to actively involve parents in the residential life of their children. Establish regular communication channels, conduct informational sessions, and create opportunities for parents to engage with the hostel community.
Support the hostel staff to facilitate community-building activities within the hostels. These can include social events, team-building exercises, and opportunities for children to connect with each other
Implement a system for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the residential curriculum, standards, and overall hostel development plan.
Use data to make adjustments and improvements as necessary. Ensure that the residential life initiatives are continually evolving based on the needs and experiences of the children.

The requirements

Qualification:
Qualifications in social work, education, child development or similar areas (Master’s Degree or equivalent will be preferred).

Experience:
Substantive knowledge and relevant experience of successfully managing a hostel, leading teams, providing vision, inspiring motivation, generating enthusiasm and empowering a culture of service delivery which meets AKESI standards for performance.
