Resource Center Specialist

Role and Responsibilities

Assigned to operate, greet, and assist everyone entering the American Job Center Resource Center. Will be the initial contact for all customers accessing the Resource Center.

1. Serve as primary contact for all customers accessing the American Job Center Resource Center.

2. Provide job seeker customers, employers, partner agencies and the community at large with information about services, workshops, events and programs the American Job Center offers.

3. Refer customers to services offered through partner agencies or direct them to the many self-directed resources.

4. Provide guidance on navigating the internet, job search, setting up emails, researching companies, creating résumés and cover letters, using AI tools, completing online job applications, and using Illinois JobLink and other career platforms such as LinkedIn.

5. Help customers access career assessments, labor market data, and career pathway tools.

6. Keep the resource center area organized, welcoming, and accessible.

7. Conduct initial screenings and referrals to Career Advisors, workshops, orientations, or supportive services.

8. Assist customers with workshop sign-ups, event registration, and scheduling.

9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of partner programs and services offered at the AJC.

10. Maintain daily sign-in logs and track resource center usage for reporting purposes. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in compliance with WIOA and agency policies.

11. Facilitate or co-facilitate job search workshops on résumé writing, interviewing, job readiness, digital literacy, etc.

12. Encourage clients to fill out Customer Satisfaction surveys.

13. Support outreach efforts, including participating in job fairs, hiring events, and recruitment days hosted by the AJC.

14. Distribute flyers and resource materials to promote available services.

15. Conduct tours of Resource Center for individual walk-ins or by appointment for groups and other partner agencies.

16. Assist Career Advisors with follow-up support to those exited from the program and/or process incoming referrals through the local database system.

17. Assist management team with projects as needed.

18. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

1. Requires a high school diploma; bachelor’s degree preferred, Bi-Lingual in Spanish required. Multi-Lingual a plus.

2. Must have knowledge of job search skills, such as writing resumes, cover letters and online job search

3. Must have computer software (Microsoft Office) and hardware skills

4. Must have a customer service focus and work with people of different socioeconomic groups

5. Team oriented as well as work independently for routine or special assignments and meet deadlines

6. Must be willing to travel occasionally between Hanover Park to main office in Wheeling and other offsite locations for programming (Travel reimbursement will be provided).

1. Strong Time Management Skills and ability to multi-task

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
