Role Purpose
To manage and optimize the allocation of resources, infrastructure, and facilities to ensure the R&D department operates efficiently and meets strategic objectives. This includes aligning resources with current and future project demands, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and fostering collaboration across teams. The role will also focus on developing data-driven systems for resource planning and utilization, supporting training and development initiatives, and assisting the Innovation Head with financial planning, budgeting, and reporting. within set KPI’s, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Key Accountability Areas Key Activities
Resource Planning
• Develop and implement advanced resource planning systems to monitor availability, utilisation, and capacity across personnel, facilities, and tools.
• Evaluate current capacities and projected demands to ensure proactive resource allocation.
• Collaborate with HR and project leads to identify and address skill gaps through targeted recruitment and secondments.
• Work with internal and external trainers to design and deliver training programs, ensuring staff are equipped with skills for current and emerging technologies.
• Regularly review and standardise resource evaluation criteria to align with organisational goals.
Resource Management
• Control resource allocation to ensure projects are staffed and resourced efficiently, adjusting based on evolving priorities.
• Use real-time data insights to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimisation.
• Develop strategies to improve resource utilisation, reducing waste and improving cost-effectiveness.
• Provide recommendations to mitigate resource bottlenecks and gaps to avoid delays and disruptions.
Management Accounting and Reporting
• Collaborate with the Innovation Head to develop and oversee the R&D department’s budget, ensuring alignment with financial and strategic goals.
• Prepare and present periodic financial reports to senior leadership, highlighting expenditure trends, potential cost savings, and investment opportunities.
• Track and analyse resource-related costs, linking them to project performance and outcomes for improved decision-making.
Infrastructure Planning and Management
• Manage the acquisition, maintenance, and optimisation of tools, equipment, and facilities, ensuring alignment with R&D project needs and compliance with industry standards.
• Facilitate the implementation of digital platforms and knowledge management systems to enhance collaboration, idea sharing, and project management.
• Support the establishment of infrastructure that enables rapid prototyping, testing, and validation of R&D projects.
• Act as a liaison between the R&D department and procurement teams to streamline infrastructure-related purchases.
Policies, Processes and Procedures
• Support monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes considering leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement
