We provide specialized inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for individuals recovering from stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputations, and other complex medical conditions.

Position Summary

The Respiratory Therapist assesses, treats, and cares for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. This role performs therapeutic procedures, operates and maintains respiratory equipment, and documents patient care while collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary care team.
Responsibilities:


Essential Functions

Demonstrates competency in respiratory therapeutics, including non‑invasive ventilators, pulmonary diagnostics, and other respiratory equipment
Maintains accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation
Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
Performs quality control, maintenance, and operation of arterial blood gas analyzers
Collects and analyzes blood specimens for gas transport and acid‑base determination
Maintains regular and punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures

Additional Responsibilities

Provides age‑appropriate care based on patient condition and developmental needs
Demonstrates expertise in medical gas administration, humidification systems, medication delivery, non‑invasive ventilatory support, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Participates in the instruction and supervision of clinical practicum students
Applies principles of growth and development across the lifespan to assess and meet patient needs

Qualifications:

Education & Training

Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences
(Certificate accepted if licensed prior to December 31, 1987)
Eligibility to sit for the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) exam per NBRC guidelines
Basic computer and mechanical aptitude required

Licensure & Certification

Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license issued by the Florida Department of Health
Active status with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), as applicable
Current BLS / Healthcare Provider certification

Experience

No prior experience required — new graduates are encouraged to apply
