Retail Applications & Systems Specialist

Role Overview

The Specialist – Retail Applications supports the Manager – Retail Technologies by managing and executing key activities related to the effective implementation, support, and optimization of retail software applications. The role covers system design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support, while proactively identifying risks and delivering sustainable technical solutions that support retail operations.


Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, implement, test, troubleshoot, and maintain retail application software to ensure system stability and performance.
  • Review, analyze, modify, encode, test, debug, and install programming systems supporting retail applications.
  • Design and deliver system solutions for operational challenges, including preparing and reviewing technical specifications.
  • Evaluate software, hardware, and application solutions and recommend new or upgraded systems as required.
  • Expand or modify existing systems to support new business requirements and improve operational workflows.
  • Manage the retail replenishment program and ensure timely creation and release of stock request orders to the warehouse.
  • Oversee financial integrations between Oracle E-Business Suite , retail applications, and third-party systems/vendors.
  • Publish monthly retail stock ageing reports using Power BI .
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including application functionality, installation procedures, operating manuals, coding logic, and corrective actions.
  • Perform application troubleshooting by running diagnostics, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions.
  • Manage retail application data, including database maintenance, backups, disaster recovery (DR) replication, file restoration, and execution of DR failover tests.
  • Provide user support by responding to system-related queries and incidents to ensure high levels of service delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, including:
  • Monthly and quarterly performance reports
  • Capacity utilization reports
  • Backup status reports
  • DR replication status reports
  • DR bubble and failover test reports
  • Conduct user training and provide ongoing guidance on retail applications.
  • Perform business requirement analysis, documentation, and process mapping.
  • Prepare detailed system flowcharts and diagrams outlining application capabilities and processes.
  • Develop, schedule, monitor, and maintain data refresh cycles and dashboards in Power BI .
  • Monitor data exchange processes between Head Office and retail outlets (download/upload jobs).


Experience & Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a similar retail applications or IT support role.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on implementation experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ICG .
  • Familiarity with Dynamics workflows and retail system integrations.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Procure-to-Pay , Order-to-Cash , Inventory Management , and Retail POS modules .
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze and understand business processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Proven capability to design, develop, enhance, support, and maintain application software across platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC), testing, infrastructure, configuration, and operating standards.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
