Retail Buyer

The Retail Buyer Is responsible for driving the revenue and profitability of our retail businesses through setting and executing market-specific assortment strategies including procuring quality products available at wholesale, prices, and promotions-that help create a positive patient/customer experience. This position requires extensive market research as well as a deep understanding of cannabis product quality. The role also requires strong skills in negotiating pricing, relationship management, inventory management, and budget management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage product assortment across categories (flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, topicals, accessories)
  • Execute purchasing plans aligned with sales trends, seasonal demand, and promotional calendars
  • Analyze sell-through, margins, and inventory performance to optimize buys

    Own product lifecycle management, including new product onboarding and SKU rationalization

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with licensed cannabis vendors and brand partners

  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, promotional support, and exclusives

  • Evaluate new brands and products for quality, compliance, and customer fit

  • Coordinate vendor demos, product education, and launch support with retail teams

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support sales while minimizing shrink and aged product

  • Forecast demand using historical sales data and market trends

  • Monitor inventory turns, weeks of supply, and expiration dates

  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure timely deliveries

  • Set retail pricing strategies to balance competitiveness and margin goals

  • Partner with marketing and store operations to execute promotions and campaigns

  • Track promotional performance and adjust future buying strategies accordingly

  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with state cannabis regulations and METRC (or applicable seed-to-sale systems)

  • Maintain accurate records for audits and regulatory reporting

  • Prepare regular reports on sales, margin, vendor performance, and inventory health

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a specific sector’s needs
  • Must be able to obtain a state medical marijuana badge and pass a background check.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Must perform under high pressure situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high stress situations.
  • Self-Motivated
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to stay focused.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Must be a team player with a “can do” attitude.
  • Available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Reliable transportation


Education & Experience Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of buying or merchandising experience, preferably in cannabis, CPG, retail, or regulated industries
  • Strong understanding of cannabis products, brands, and consumer trends
  • Experience working with POS, inventory management, and seed-to-sale systems
  • Proven ability to analyze data and translate insights into buying decisions
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline driven
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment
  • Multi-store or MSO buying experience (Preferred)
  • Experience with METRC, Dutchie, Flowhub, or similar platforms (Preferred)


Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to sit or stand for up to 12 hours at a time.
  • Lifting, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, push/pull, repetitive use of hands, grasping use of hands, visual activity
