Overview:

How do you make a sculpture of a 20ft tall bottle that's pouring rootbeer onto the ground from 15 feet in the air? What does the armature look like? How do you transport it?

Outshaped solves puzzles like this every day, along with other massive displays, fiberglass patterns, concrete molds, and specialty crating.

This is not a remote position.

Position Overview

As a Rhino Designer or Design Lead you will work with a team of three modelers/drafters, providing leadership, design insight, and guidance on standard practices. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, practical building experience, and a proven background in engineering and design. The position will not only lead but also actively contribute—taking on challenging projects, supporting manufacturing teams, and handling leadership and administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and improve engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance, mechanical insight, and design review to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Take on complex design and engineering projects directly.
  • Support manufacturing teams by answering technical questions and resolving design challenges.
  • Drive accountability within the design/engineering department.
  • Oversee project timelines, quality, and deliverables.
  • Perform leadership and administrative activities including scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Rhino modeling software.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or related fields.
  • Strong background in manufacturing processes and mechanical systems.
  • Proven leadership or team management experience.
  • Proficiency with other CAD/modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a “hands-on” approach.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to balance leadership duties with direct project involvement.
