About the Role
We are seeking a competent and safety-conscious Rig Operator to join our team in Guinea. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of drilling/rig equipment, supervising rig floor activities, and ensuring compliance with operational, environmental and HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor drilling rig machinery and equipment including hoisting, rotating and circulating systems.
- Conduct rig set-up, rig-down, moving operations, and ensure equipment is in operational condition.
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on rig equipment to minimise downtime and ensure safe operation.
- Supervise and coordinate the rig crew (floor hands, derrick hands, etc.) to ensure efficient drilling operations and adherence to procedures.
- Monitor drilling parameters (pressure, rate of penetration, fluid return, etc.), log data and report anomalies or unexpected conditions promptly.
- Ensure strict compliance with all HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) policies, conduct safety briefings, tailgate meetings, job hazard analyses and stop work if unsafe conditions are identified.
- Maintain accurate operational records and logs: daily rig reports, equipment maintenance logs, incident/near-miss reports.
- Assist in fault-finding and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical malfunctions of rig equipment.
- Participate in/lead tool box talks, permit-to-work (PTW) systems, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures and ensure all crew are aware of safety protocols.
- Ensure housekeeping on rig floor and surrounding areas—tools, equipment and site are kept in safe, clean and orderly condition.
- Liaise with rig supervisor / management on operational status, equipment readiness, crew performance and any issues requiring escalation.
- Adhere to company policies, local regulations and international best practices related to drilling operations, environmental protection and worker safety.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or diploma in mechanical/electrical/hydraulics is an advantage.
- Proven experience as a Rig Operator (or similar role) in drilling or workover operations: ideally 3-5 years or more.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of rig systems: hoisting, rotating, circulating, hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with rig floor operations, pipe handling, BOP (blow-out preventer) operations or equivalent.
- Good leadership/crew supervision skills; ability to work as part of a team in remote/rig environment.
- Excellent commitment to safety, with ability to conduct risk assessments, job safety analyses, and enforce stop-work policies.
- Physically fit and able to work in challenging/remote environments, long hours, sometimes shift work.
- Good communication skills in English (French or local language skills may be an advantage in Guinea).
- Willingness to relocate to or work in Guinea and operate within the local logistical/operational environment.
