Job Description:

The RN - Clinical Informatics directly supports clinical staff in determining system requirements, adapting clinical workflows to adopt technology and understanding system functionality required to support and improve clinical process.
The employee develops and helps maintain the electronic medical system, software applications and databases of UofL Health across the care continuum. This employee maintains thorough understanding of all application functionality, reporting capabilities, interfacing and integration of each clinical application assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage technology to improve clinical workflow; leads the development of policies and procedures and provides guidance on EMR best practices to various Process Improvement committees in UofL Health for the optimal usage of Clinical Information Systems
  • Provides expert guidance to EMR teams on system optimization, change management, standardized processes and workflows for a successful post implementation operation
  • Supports departmental (nursing, ancillary) educational functions in training staff on clinical technology processes and requires a detailed knowledge of the electronic health record and the ability to analyze processes/systems as they impact the organizations’ strategic initiatives and patient experience
  • Works closely with Clinical Leadership and other stakeholder teams to design, implement and support the goals and objectives of the organization set by the leadership
  • Uses clinical background and EMR experience to benefit the build, support and optimization of the EMR application assigned
  • Ensures consistent use of clinical and revenue cycle information technology and the adoption of care team workflow changes enabled by Cerner
  • Acts as a liaison between technical staff and business subject matter experts in creating and refining business requirements
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with internal and external customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and delivery
  • Performs testing and training on system changes, upgrades and enhanced functionality
  • Works closely with Applications Analysts, departments and Technical teams to create and maintain appropriate application and workflow documentation
Shift Requirements:
During Go-Live or other implementation events, working night, weekend or other shifts will be required.
Other Functions:
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of long-term strategic applications planning for the EMR for the area of responsibility to achieve strategic outcomes for the implementation
  • Adheres to all Security Standards as set forth by the organization and National guidelines
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Job Description:

Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or other clinical degree (required)
o equivalent combination education and experience may be considered
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or other healthcare field (preferred)
Experience:
  • Five (5) or more years of prior experience in a healthcare clinical environment (required)

o If working in a specialty setting, 2+ years of specialty specific (e.g. oncology, surgery) clinical experience including knowledge of specialty operations, workflows and methodologies (required)

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience with a healthcare EMR is (required)
  • Three (3) or more years of Cerner implementation and/or support experience (preferred)
Licensure:
  • Active Kentucky Registered Nurse License or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky
Certification:
  • Informatics Certification preferred

  • Strong technological acumen necessary
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient in Cerner
  • Must have the capacity to learn other relevant systems and databases, as needed
