RN First Assist Cardiothoracic Surgery

Provides preoperative assessment and support in collaboration with the health care team members. Serves as first assist to the surgeon during cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures under direct supervision of the attending surgeon. Works in collaboration with the surgeons and health care team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery. Promotes efficiency, continuity of care and postoperative support. Communicates with other team members to ensure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period.

Formal Education Required RNFA:
a. Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

• Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment

b. Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
c. Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
d. Completion of an accredited course in RN First Assisting
e. CNOR certified, willing to pursue certification and maintains certification
f. CPR certified and maintains certification

Or

Formal Education Required Physician Assistant:
a. Completion of formal Physician Assistant training from an Accredited program with NCCPA certification.
b. Approved by Ohio State Medical Board of standard or supplemental physician assistant utilization plan and supervision agreement between supervising physician
and physician assistant.
c. Must be credentialed by Summa Health System.

Experience and Training Required:

• Three year's experience in cardiothoracic surgery and perioperative nursing
