Under the supervision of a Sergeant or other command officer, patrols the County in order to enforce the laws, investigates criminal activities, polices accident scenes, responds to domestic and other disputes, and answers requests for a variety of services. Performs a variety of functions related to protecting lives and property within the County. May be assigned to road patrol, detective bureau, traffic enforcement narcotics team, contracted policing programs, school liaison, or other specialized assignment. May receive specialized training in accident reconstruction, evidence/property management, crime scene processing, and other areas.

Education: Associate degree in police administration, criminal justice or related areas, or equivalent experience. [Two years’ experience as a law enforcement officer may be considered to substitute for the educational requirement.]
Experience: No prior experience required. Prefer some related law enforcement experience which may have been in a military, reserve, cadet or other capacity.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of policies, procedures, state, federal, and local laws.
Knowledge of multiple technologies, computer systems, radar units, breathalyzer machines etc.
Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
Skill in de-escalating emotional and angry subjects Skills in defensive tactics, less than lethal force.
Knowledge, skill and ability in first-aid life saving techniques.
Knowledge in criminal investigation, procedures and techniques
Other Requirements: Certification by the Michigan law Enforcement Officers Training Council. Certification in CPR, First Aid, PBT, radar, and firearms safety. Some assignments may have additional requirements. Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
