Roadside Diesel Mechanic

As a full-time Roadside Diesel Mechanic at National Wrecker Service in Portsmouth, NH, you're not just turning wrenches - you're making a difference for drivers who depend on you. This role offers $38/hr starting pay during daytime shift hours and additional incentive for night calls, giving you the earning potential you deserve! This is a full-time position following a 4-day on / 4-day off schedule. You will work 8am–8pm at our central Portsmouth location and remain on-call from 8pm–8am during those same four days. If you live close to our central site, you have the option to take your service truck home for night calls.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Roadside Diesel Mechanic, you become the lifeline for drivers throughout the region, using your mechanical expertise to perform on-site repairs for diesel trucks and trailers wherever the breakdown occurs. You'll diagnose issues across multiple systems - engines, electrical components, air systems, suspension, steering, air brakes, and more - using your knowledge of major engine makes to pinpoint and resolve problems efficiently. Whether you're troubleshooting with your diagnostic equipment or making hands-on repairs with precision, your work keeps trucks moving, schedules on track, and customers safe. Every call brings new challenges, and your skill, judgment, and confidence bring solutions that matter.


YOU MIGHT BE A MATCH IF YOU MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diesel mechanic experience
  • Heavy truck repair experience
  • Knowledge of all makes, including Cummins, Detroit, International, Hino, Isuzu, etc.
  • Knowledge of computer diagnostics and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of air system diagnostics and repairs
  • Understanding of steering, suspension, air brakes, and general truck systems
  • Current medical card
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
