Job Overview:
Under direct supervision, the Application Engineer supports the deployment and adoption of industrial robotic solutions by evaluating customer applications and recommending appropriate robotic products. This role emphasizes technical consultation, product selection, and customer support, working closely with Field Sales personnel and providing training to end users and system integrators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts independent analysis of operating conditions and specifications proposed and requested by customers. Determines feasibility and product cost estimates from consideration of applicable policies and engineering requirements.
- Selects appropriate testing required to evaluate products and assists with testing, as necessary. Captures and reports product testing results to management and/or more senior engineers.
- Communicates with sales teams and customers as needed and acts as a technical resource for the sales team.
- Assists with the creation of technical reports and presentations to DENSO customers and other divisions. Prepares other engineering documentation such as BOMs, ECNs and CAD drawings, as required by engineering management.
- Locates and purchases product evaluation samples.
- Participates in benchmarking activities. Collects and compiles information on competitor products and may assist with evaluation of patent-related data.
- Analyzes current processes, procedures and systems and makes recommendations for improvement for own job.

Minimum Level of Education and Training Required
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or other engineering or related field and 0-3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Basic understanding and competency in working with computer software and mainframe applications to manipulate, analyze and reconcile data
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and other engineering software and databases
- Familiarity with industrial robots and their specifications
- Willingness to travel for customer visits, training sessions, and trade shows.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with robotic simulation tools and object-oriented programming.
- Exposure to manufacturing environments and automation processes.
- Basic understanding of PLCs/IPCs, vision systems, and peripheral equipment.

Position work environment is typically indoors in pleasant, well-lighted area with comfortable temperatures and in a controlled environment where no significant amounts of dust, fumes or odors. Occasionally exposed to a warehouse or production environment with moving mechanical parts and material handling equipment. Temperatures may vary widely dependent on the season.
