About SteerAI

SteerAI is an autonomous mobility technology company powered by VentureOne, the commercialization arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council. SteerAI’s advanced AI-powered autonomy stack, developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, empowers the logistics and defense industries by turning industrial vehicles into autonomous powerhouses that can handle complex off-road missions, transform operations and protect organizations' most important assets: their workforce.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer specializing in Robotic Localization to participate in the development of cutting-edge localization systems for autonomous robotic platforms. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SLAM using both lidar and camera sensors, and a deep understanding of sensor fusion techniques. Proficiency in implementing and tuning filters such as Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), and Particle Filter is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement robust SLAM algorithms using lidar and camera sensors for accurate robotic localization.
  • Design and optimize sensor fusion strategies to integrate data from multiple sensors for enhanced localization accuracy.
  • Apply and tune various filtering techniques, including EKF, UKF, and Particle Filter, to improve system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate localization systems with other robotic subsystems, ensuring overall system coherence and reliability.
  • Conduct research and stay updated with advancements in robotic localization, SLAM, and sensor fusion technologies.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in SLAM, both lidar-based and camera-based.
  • Expertise in sensor fusion techniques and multi-sensor integration.
  • Proficient in filtering techniques like EKF, UKF, and Particle Filter.
  • Strong background in robotics, computer vision, and machine learning.
  • Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) and its application in localization tasks.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python and C++.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities, with a knack for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience with 3D mapping and computer vision algorithms is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hardware components relevant to robotic localization (e.g., IMUs, GPS).
  • Masters or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science or a related field.
