About BlueCat AI
BlueCat AI is a Doha-based EdTech startup building an AI literacy platform for children. Our product includes a companion robot that helps children learn to think critically about AI. We're looking for an engineer to lead the robotics integration for our first hardware product.
The Role
We're hiring a Robotics Integration Engineer to own the development of our educational companion robot. In Phase 1, you'll evaluate and customize existing social robots from manufacturers. In Phase 2 (2027), you'll help design custom hardware.
This is a unique opportunity to build a child-friendly robot from the ground up — not just write code, but shape the entire product experience.
What You'll DoPhase 1 (Next 6 Months):
- Research and evaluate existing social/educational robots (Misty, Kebbi, NAO, etc.)
- Recommend platform selection based on customization potential, SDK, cost
- Integrate BlueCat AI personality and dialogue system into robot
- Implement voice interaction (Arabic + English TTS/STT)
- Develop expressions, animations, and child-friendly interactions
- Work with manufacturer on customization (shell design, branding)
- Deliver working prototype within 3–4 months
Phase 2 (2027):
- Contribute to custom robot hardware design specifications
- Work with industrial designers and manufacturers
- Lead firmware and embedded systems development
RequirementsMust Have:
- 3–6 years experience in robotics, embedded systems, or mechatronics
- Hands-on experience with robot SDKs or platforms
- Programming skills: Python, C/C++
- Experience integrating AI/ML components or AI models (e.g speech, vision, NLP)
- Understanding of hardware-software interfaces
- Based in Doha
Nice to Have:
- Experience with social robots or educational robotics
- ROS (Robot Operating System) knowledge
- Experience with child-safety standards for hardware
- Background in product development (not just R&D)
- Knowledge of robot manufacturers and supply chain
- Arabic and English language skills (plus)
What We Offer
- Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
- Opportunity to build a robot product from scratch
- Work on cutting-edge AI + robotics for children
- Small team with high ownership and impact
- Path to lead hardware development in Phase 2
- Mission-driven work in the EdTech space
