Rotational Trainee

PURPOSE
The Operations Rotational Program affords recent college and graduate school graduates the opportunity to be fully submerged into, and gain comprehensive insight of, the operations of USA Truck. The Program involves a 6 to 9 month rotation in which the participant will perform various managerial functions within the operations departments. The Program’s objective is to provide participants with exposure to every aspect of operations and operational leadership, to prepare for future opportunities within the Company. The objective is for the participant to develop into a specific leadership role within an operations department upon completion of the Program.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Program will involve the following rotational positions:
  • Logistics: Carrier Manager
  • Become a Carrier Manager in order to match freight with carriers
  • Maintain strategic relationships with multiple clients using negotiations
  • Provide exceptional customer service to continually strengthen relationships with existing customer
  • Skills Learned: This position will expose you to the Logistics segment of USA Truck. It will teach you to understand how our relationship with other carriers directly impacts the success of our business.
  • Driver Manager
  • The Driver Manager is responsible for managing a fleet of 25-40 drivers
  • You goal is to get the driver from point A to point B as safely and cost effectively as possible
  • Your objective is to maximize the loaded miles of your fleet
  • Skills Learned: This aspect of the program will expose the individual to management of people. You will learn how to maximize production out of others through tactile management techniques.
  • Customer Service Specialist
  • Support and assist account managers through timely order entry and appointment scheduling
  • Effectively communicate to our internal and external customers
  • Maximize USA Truck transit time through aggressive solicitation of pick up times
  • Skills Leaned: This aspect of the program will expose you to the vast internal network of customers that USA Truck has. Customer Service is a huge part of any business and it is very important to have a deep understanding when developing your career at USAT.
  • Load Planner
  • Identify opportunities to optimize transportation or to address internal and external customer needs
  • Ensure all customer freight commitments are met on a timely manner through strategic planning
  • Responsible for the outbound planning of any tractor coming inbound to your assigned geographical area
  • Skills Learned: This aspect of the program will expose you to the vast geographical network in which USAT operates. You will understand the skills necessary in order to optimize a network and how this optimization will impact miles on trucks, service and geographical equipment needs.
  • Pricing Analyst

  • Prepare and review assigned pricing opportunities (RFP’s and RFQ’s) to ensure they align with our network strategy and profitability goals
  • Work collaboratively with the Sales, Operations and Logistics team to manage the pricing process from initial RFP through proposal development
  • Analyze key network metrics to develop action plans around improving network efficiency.
  • Skills Learned: This aspect of the program will expose you to the strategic direction and tactical execution of the pricing and network functions. You will understand and develop the skills necessary in order to drive profit and network improvements through specific pricing and network strategies, and how these strategies will impact miles on trucks, service and ultimately the profitability of USAT.
  • Customer Logistics Manager
  • Perform complex and technical duties using USA computer applications such as TMW and People Net
  • Work independently, using sound judgment in making decisions and maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Schedule and/or reschedule delivery times for loads
  • Provide detailed directions and instructions to drivers
  • Maximize equipment and driver utilization
  • Implement and manage Hours of Service audit process that drives accountability to ensure compliance with USA requirements as well as applicable federal, state and local regulations
  • Daily contact with the customer and the customer’s transportation departments via phone call and in person to discuss feedback and future operations planning.
  • Skills Learned: This aspect of the program will expose you to the Dedicated segment of USA Truck. You will learn to manage and provide services to the customer in compliance, system(s) integrity, service reporting, and various other responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree, preference given to Business Administration, Transportation and Supply Chain Management.
