Job Purpose
SXSW is seeking a Seasonal Data Analyst with a broad range of experience in reviewing, cleaning, and analyzing data. This role supports the Strategy department by turning raw data into valuable insights. Responsibilities include cleaning, annotating, and analyzing data from surveys, marketing campaigns, and social media, assisting with survey activities, and creating clear, impactful visualizations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with project managers to understand and maintain focus on their analytics needs, including critical metrics and KPIs, and deliver actionable insights to relevant decision-makers
- Assist with data cleaning efforts, including automating and developing workflows for robust ETL processes across various platforms.
- Manage data sets from disparate sources, including joining and normalizing data to ensure seamless integration.
- Identify trends and opportunities for growth by analyzing complex datasets to gain a deeper understanding of the data.
- Maintain databases and data systems by identifying and resolving errors, as well as monitoring performance.
On-Site Responsibilities
- Respond to questions from colleagues, clients, and production entities
- Assist colleagues with urgent situations as needed
- Provide additional support or take on tasks as directed by the manager
- Help with real-time data collection during the event, if required
Qualifications & Skills
Qualifications include:
- A minimum of one year of experience with an annual SXSW or related annual large-scale, international event is required.
- Three or more years of experience with diagnostic or descriptive analytics, including experience with identifying and succinctly presenting insights
- Demonstrated experience using SQL / SOQL / Python in data analysis and data manipulation, as well as cloud-based data warehouses and platforms (e.g., GCP/BigQuery, Snowflake, or AWS Redshift).
- AirTable, data architecture, mapping, and data visualization (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Looker Studio) experience is a plus, but not required.
- Have the ability to work independently and within a team
- Possess good communication skills
- Be highly organized, flexible, and have excellent time management skills
- Familiarity with statistical modeling is a plus

Work Location & Schedule
The position is full-time and located in Austin, Texas. Core business office hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You must be available to work additional hours from January through March, including evenings and weekends. You must also be available for the March event, which will have extended working hours onsite.
