Capuchin Community Services

Capuchin Community Services, a ministry of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing basic needs services to individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness in the city of Milwaukee. The ministry operates at two sites: St. Ben’s, which houses the meal program and direct services such as social work support, a health clinic, showers, and a barber shop; and the House of Peace, which offers services including a food pantry, clothing pantry, legal clinic, health clinic, and other community-based supports.

Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time Safety Associate and Driver to join our team at the Capuchin Community Services. The Safety Associate and Driver will work with the staff at Capuchin Community Services to ensure that all guests, volunteers, friars and staff are welcomed into a safe environment.

Position Hours

  • Monday - Friday
  • 9:00AM – 2:00PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Demonstrate, exemplify and support the Capuchin Charism and Provincial Mission, Vision and Values throughout all professional responsibilities and activities.

  • Continually monitor premises by walking around assigned areas and checking surveillance feeds.
  • Report safety issues including building hazards and suspicious activity to Assistant Director or designee or contact Police/Fire/EMS if situation is urgent.
  • Assist with compliance of CCS, municipal, state and federal safety guidelines.
  • Report any damage to property or loss of inventory.
  • Interact with guests to ensure compliance with rules working to de-escalate inappropriate actions.
  • Monitor entryways and exits of site ensuring compliance with prohibited items, reducing chance of theft, and enforce authorized entry for guests, volunteers, friars and employees to building and restricted areas.
  • Assist with moving donations of food and clothing to appropriate storage and distribution locations.
  • Use CCS vehicle to travel from site to site pick up donations and deliver as needed. May also drive to offsite locations to pick up donations.
  • Cover reception desk and phones as needed.
  • Comply with Province and ministry policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Security, public safety or similar field experience.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
  • Ability to be welcoming and professional and maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective communication, problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and travel locally.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Effective Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and ability to implement them.
  • Knowledge of standard safety guidelines and equipment.
  • Ability to drive large passenger van.
