Job Summary
A Safety Chargehand is responsible for supervising and monitoring site safety activities to ensure compliance with UAE safety regulations, company HSE policies, and project safety standards. The role involves conducting inspections, guiding workers on safe work practices, identifying hazards, and supporting the safety team in maintaining a safe working environment on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily site activities and ensure compliance with HSE regulations and company safety procedures.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings for workers before commencement of work.
- Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective actions.
- Ensure proper use of PPE by all workers and subcontractors.
- Assist in conducting risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Inspect work areas, tools, equipment, scaffolding, lifting activities, and housekeeping conditions.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazardous situations to the Safety Officer / HSE Manager.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, and daily safety observations.
- Coordinate with supervisors and site engineers regarding safe execution of work activities.
- Ensure emergency procedures and fire safety requirements are properly implemented on site.
- Monitor permit-to-work activities and ensure compliance with approved permits.
- Support safety campaigns, drills, and awareness programs.
- Ensure compliance with UAE labor safety regulations and client safety requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of experience as Safety Chargehand in UAE construction projects.
- Good knowledge of UAE HSE regulations and construction safety standards.
- Ability to supervise workers and enforce safety procedures effectively.
- Familiar with PTW system, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- NEBOSH / IOSH / First Aid certification is an advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced site environments.
Educational Qualification
- High School / Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Safety certifications preferred (NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, etc.).
