Summary:

The Safety Intern helps shift the organization from a traditional certification approach to a structured, taskbased safety certification program by creating documentation, training materials, and assessment tools aligned with OSHA standards. The intern works with the Safety Director and subject matter experts to develop scalable safety modules for highrisk taskssuch as forklift operation, crane use, confined space entry, and lockout/tagoutand gains handson experience in safety governance, compliance reporting, emergency preparedness, and training development within a manufacturing environment.


Core Functions:

Task-Based Certification Development

  • Assist in converting current safety certifications into task-specific certification packets.
  • Develop structured certification documents including work instructions, qualification checklists, observation forms, and assessment criteria.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with OSHA standards and internal safety policies.
  • Coordinate review and validation sessions with SMEs (Kyle Hoffman & Brandon Smith).

Safety Training & Micro-Learning Development

  • Draft scripts and outlines for safety training modules.
  • Assist in production of 2–3 safety micro-learning videos (e.g., crane and yard dog training).
  • Support filming coordination and post-production organization.
  • Ensure training content clearly aligns with certification checklists.

Safety Governance & Committee Participation

  • Attend and contribute to Corporate Safety Committee meetings.
  • Participate in Manufacturing and PEMB safety committee discussions.
  • Prepare summary notes and provide data-driven observations.
  • Assist in planning and execution of corporate safety drills.

Safety Reporting & Compliance Support

  • Assist in analyzing safety dashboards and incident trends.
  • Support incident documentation and reporting processes.
  • Accompany Safety Director on site visits when scheduling permits.
  • Review safety documentation for completeness and consistency.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline certification workflows.
  • Recommend improvements to onboarding-related safety training.
  • Support development of scalable and repeatable safety program materials.

Key Measures of Success:

  • Completion of 5–7 fully developed task-based certification packets.
  • Delivery of at least 2–3 training video outlines or production-ready materials.
  • Completion of task-based work instructions and observation forms.
  • Active participation and contribution in Safety Committee meetings.
  • Development of documented safety drill execution plan.
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety compliance fundamentals.

Education & Experience:

Minimum Required:

  • Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred:

  • Exposure to OSHA regulations or safety coursework.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office environment. This role will routinely utilize standard office equipment to perform the core functions listed in this job description. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies as well as communicate verbally and electronically. The work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive reading to perform the core functions listed in this job description. While performing the core function of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and stand.
