Safety Manager

The Gloucester Marine Terminal is operated by Gloucester Terminals LLC and offers stevedoring and break bulk services. The terminal, located in the Port of Philadelphia has direct access to highways as well as three rail lines that transit across the United States and Canada, providing unrivaled turnaround times for our partners.

Position Summary
Gloucester Marine Terminal, a growing marine facility located in Gloucester City, New Jersey, is seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Manager to lead our safety program and ensure a safe, compliant work environment across all operations.
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing workplace safety programs, training employees, conducting inspections and audits, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies. This individual will collaborate closely with terminal operations leadership and report directly to the Director of Quality, Regulation, and Compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote a strong safety culture through training, communication, and accountability.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct safety training sessions and new hire orientations.
  • Lead safety meetings, site inspections, and internal audits to ensure compliance.
  • Identify workplace hazards, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure resolution.
  • Maintain training records and incident documentation.
  • Administer and enforce the terminal’s drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Collaborate with department managers to assess and meet safety training needs.
  • Conduct safety inspections aboard vessels, in warehouses, on the waterfront, and throughout terminal facilities in all weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Management, Environmental Health, or related field – or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of safety management experience, preferably in maritime, terminal, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, training standards, and compliance practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to learn terminal-specific software platforms.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; self-directed and dependable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification or other safety credentials (e.g., CHST, CSP).
  • Experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices in a port or marine terminal environment.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $65,000 – $100,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
