Position Summary:
The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and Center for Advanced Intestinal Rehabilitation at Boston Children’s Hospital are seeking a highly interested, and motivated Safety & Quality Specialist to support various Divisional and Center-based entry-level data analysis, data queries, and quality improvement (QI) initiatives, as well as assist in preparing materials for local meeting presentations and national abstract submissions/publications.
Selected candidate will be involved with many exciting projects embedded into both a dynamic, multidisciplinary program and collegial quality improvement team committed to understanding and improving the quality of care provided to children with short bowel syndrome and various other digestive and nutritional disorders. The selected candidate must be an excellent communicator, well-organized, interested in data analytics and analysis, and enthusiastic.
This Safety & Quality Specialist will play a central role in extracting, analyzing, and translating clinical data into quality improvement report summaries and operational improvements in patient care and program performance.
This is an ideal position for an early-career candidate interested in furthering their expertise in data analytics use of an electronic health care record (EPIC), healthcare data systems, and quality improvement (QI), and QI statistical analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate data collection, tracking, and reporting with projects related to quality improvement (QI), quality measurement and QI research within the Division of Gastroenterology and Center for Advanced Intestinal Rehabilitation for data tracking, process improvement, and reporting
Assisting with data capture and compiling reports from the electronic health care record (EPIC) as well as a variety of clinical settings, including ambulatory clinics, procedural areas and hospital wards
Assist in basic statistical and other trend analyses from information gathered in patient surveys, EPIC-based reports, hospital administrative databases, and other sources
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data used to develop reports and summaries to track clinical outcomes, program metrics, and performance trends
Collaborate with institutional informatics and clinical quality improvement teams to optimize data extraction and reporting capabilities
Prepare and present data for internal meetings, leadership discussions, and national collaboratives
Participate in Divisional and CAIR-related clinical practice guideline initiatives and risk management activities
Maintain expertise in current and emerging data management and analysis methods, including appropriate computer software applications
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's Degree preferred
Experience:
2 years’ experience of administrative, project coordination experience required. 1 year in a quality and safety role.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and data accuracy
Introduction level QI understanding and data handling
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with electronic health records (e.g. EPIC) is preferred
Experience with data platforms such as Redcap, Statistics Process Control (SQCpack) or data visualization tools is preferred
Prior experience in clinical research or QI initiatives is preferred
