Responsibilities
- Review, evaluate, and process accident, injury, cargo damage, and liability claims in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring all cases are handled in accordance with company policies, insurance requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Ensure all required claim documentation, including incident reports, driver statements, medical documentation, photographs, police reports, and witness accounts—is properly collected, reviewed for accuracy, and maintained in compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain organized, detailed, and confidential records of all claims, accidents, and investigations within the company’s claims management systems to support accurate reporting, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct comprehensive investigations into accidents and injury-related incidents involving company drivers, commercial motor vehicles, and third parties. This includes interviewing involved individuals and witnesses, reviewing photographs and police reports, and analyzing evidence to determine liability, root cause, and claim validity.
- Ensure all accidents and safety incidents are documented in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, including maintaining the company DOT Accident Register and ensuring required records are properly retained.
- Coordinate and verify DOT-required post-accident drug and alcohol testing when applicable, ensuring compliance with federal testing timelines and documentation requirements.
- Support the company’s DOT safety compliance programs, including assisting with reviews of driver qualification documentation, accident records, and safety-related reporting to ensure compliance with federal and state transportation regulations.
- Prepare reports and summaries for management regarding accident trends, claim activity, safety performance, and financial exposure, supporting ongoing safety initiatives and operational improvements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, claimants, and internal stakeholders throughout the claims and investigation process, providing clear communication, guidance, and timely updates. Respond professionally to inquiries from employees, insurance carriers, attorneys, and regulatory representatives.
- Prepare detailed accident investigation summaries and documentation for internal leadership, insurance partners, and legal review when required. Ensure all communications and records are maintained with a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of experience in processing damage claims within an auto transportation business.
- Knowledgeable of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations & DOT.
- Strong analytical and root cause problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis to identify areas for improvement.
- Ability to analyze data and identify trends regarding safety and risk.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong knowledge of insurance claims processes, workplace safety regulations, liability laws.
- Auto Transportation knowledge required.
- Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) is preferred.
