Safety Technician - GDS

About the job:

Position: Safety Technician

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance activity PM/CM (Preventive Maintenance/Corrective Maintenance) including calibration of Fixed Gas Detectors in the fertilizer and chemical plants.
  • Generate appropriate planning at least 1 month in advance in conducting PM/CM on gas detectors.
  • Update PM/CM schedule of Fixed Gas Detectors.
  • Technician shall check functionality of field Gas Detectors during the preventive maintenance activity and repair the detectors if find any issue.
  • Generate detailed report during the conduction of PM/CM activity.
  • Issues PM/CM certificate together with the detailed report.
  • Technician shall conduct toolbox meeting regularly.
  • Update client daily on the progress of PM/CM activity.
  • Daily inspections at the control rooms for the gas detector panel. Report any findings or abnormalities to the supervisor or in-charge immediately.
  • Follow and perform Plant Checklist, SMPs and OEM manuals for the PM/CM job.
  • Attending the job during emergency call and call-out during silent hours.
  • Review and update spare parts list, stocking, and usage. Report requirement on the spares in advance so it can be arrange/arrive on time.
  • Plan PM activity / coordinate with plant supervisor or in-charge at least 7 working days in advance for any required scaffolding.
  • Attend and passed the screening test for authorization to receive the work permit.
  • Attend training and adhere plants work permit procedure.
  • Installation, testing and commissioning of new gas detectors.
  • Any other tasks/duties as assigned by Supervisor or line manager.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must have good English language and writing skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be a self-directed individual capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in the upstream and/or downstream Oil & Gas industry (preferably downstream fixed gas detection system)
  • Capable of working in remote areas for extended periods.
  • Can understand and comprehend gas detection technical manuals.
  • Able to read and analyze gas detector system electrical diagrams.
  • Familiar on how to operate and calibrate including troubleshooting and/or repair of fixed gas detectors.
  • Familiar on the following fixed/wired gas detectors: Drager-7000, Drager 2 IR, Drager Polytron Series, Honeywell Sensepoint Series, Honeywell Search Point / Series 3000, Detcon DM 700 Series
  • Great acumen in technical matters with respect to gas detectors.
