Scale Buyer

Description:

Using an electronic scale and RIMAS computer program, the Scale Buyer is responsible for collecting and weighing material received from customers. This position is also responsible for weighing tucks and assuring that proper weight and material is purchased and that they are entering the correct data into the computer. Interacts on a constant basis with customers and truck drivers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follows all safety rules and procedures and observes the operations to ensure a safe environment
• Maintain order and housekeeping of scales.
• Acts in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner towards customers and co-workers.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules that are set forth; promotes the Company’s safety standards; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness.
• Differentiate material and bill the customer accordingly (Ferrous vs. Non-ferrous)
• Responsible for the accuracy of all weightings.
• Documents any downgrades with pictures and communicates to Beacon representative in charge of the account
• Directs customers where to dump their material
• Must keep the traffic on the truck scale moving with no delays
• Inspects every inbound load of scrap from industrial customers
• Performs other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role is carried outside. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

• Previous experience in weigh or scale operation preferred
• Basic math and computer skills required.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Ability to make routine arithmetical computations and tabulations accurately and to prepare
• Have the ability to learn to recognize and classify metals such as brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals
• Must be a self-starter with a positive attitude who requires little to no supervision
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position
• Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, squat, stoop, etc. for long periods of time
• Must be willing to learn and strictly follow all company safety procedures
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English to comprehend and follow written procedures, container labels and safety precautions
• Good attention to detail
