School Content Writer/Content Creator

Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Advancement

Exemption Status: Exempt/Salaried (full time; 12-months; flexibility of hours for some nights and weekend activities)

Job Summary:

The Content Writer is crucial for shaping the public perception of the school, driving enrollment through effective storytelling, and keeping the school community informed and engaged. The Content Writer is responsible for crafting engaging, accurate, and on-brand content for various platforms, including the school website, social media, newsletters, and marketing materials. This role focuses on promoting the school's mission, highlighting student achievements, and facilitating communication between the school, parents, and the community.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Write, edit, and publish highquality content for the school website, blog, social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), and email newsletters.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Advancement, develop compelling content for brochures, prospectuses, flyers, and advertising campaigns to boost enrollment. Interview parents, students, and staff to highlight the mission and work of LUMIN Schools.
  • Interview teachers, staff, and students to create articles about school events, student successes, and classroom activities.
  • Create content that highlights the networks and school’s unique selling points, academic programs, and extracurricular activities to prospective families.
  • Manage the school's social media editorial calendar in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Advancement, creating engaging posts that foster community engagement.
  • Use SEO best practices to ensure the school's website and blog posts are visible to prospective families searching online.
  • Ensure all written materials adhere to the school's voice, style guide, and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with photographers, graphic designers, and videographers to create engaging visual content.
  • Monitor engagement metrics (e.g., website traffic, social media clicks) to understand what content resonates with the audience and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Proofread all content meticulously for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and accuracy of information.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a content writer, content creator, copywriter, or in a similar role, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of the English language.
  • Understanding of SEO principles, keywords, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Strong understanding of major social media platforms and best practices for audience engagement.
  • Ability to research topics, conduct interviews, and synthesize information into engaging stories.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
  • High school diploma required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a K12 school or university environment.
  • Basic proficiency in photo or video editing software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).

Key competencies:

  • Ability to come up with fresh ideas to tell the school's story.
  • Meticulous approach to proofreading and formatting.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, teachers, and administrators.
