School Groundskeeper/Custodial Position

K–12 Groundskeeper / Custodial

Position Type: Classified, Non-Exempt, Year-Round

Supervisor: Facilities Director

Schedule: Full-Time; May Include Weekends Based on Weather Conditions

Position Summary The K–12 Groundskeeper ensures the upkeep, safety, and aesthetic appearance of school campuses across all grade levels. This role involves landscaping, irrigation, snow removal, and seasonal maintenance, contributing directly to the functionality and curb appeal of all district grounds. The Groundskeeper works in all weather conditions to support school operations and provide a secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties may include custodial duties as assigned (See General Custodial Job Description).

Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs, athletic fields, parking lots, and sidewalks Operate landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and edgers Conduct snow and ice removal on walkways, entryways, and access roads using shovels, plows, and salt application Identify and report hazards, damage, or maintenance needs promptly Maintain irrigation systems, fencing, and other outdoor fixtures Clean and maintain outdoor common areas and school entrances

General custodial duties as assigned. To include, cafeteria set-up and take down Assist with setup for indoor/outdoor school events and activities (including lunchroom) Ensure tools and machinery are properly maintained and stored Perform duties during non-standard hours, including weekends and early mornings, as required by weather Collaborate with the Facilities team to support seasonal projects and emergency response Other duties as assigned

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in groundskeeping or landscaping strongly preferred Ability to safely operate snow removal and landscaping equipment Knowledge of basic horticulture and grounds maintenance techniques Physical stamina to perform manual labor in varied weather conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform prolonged outdoor work Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety Flexible and reliable; able to respond quickly to weather-related needs Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.

Fingerprint background check will be performed.

Work Environment Outdoor school campuses across K–12 sites Exposure to varying weather and seasonal conditions Coordinated work with Facilities and Maintenance staff

Pay: $14.80 - $17.50 per hour
