Department Information


The Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine is committed to understanding the symptoms and neurobiological basis of mental illness and advancing psychiatric treatments through extensive involvement in basic and clinical research and patient care. The department is also involved with educating and training future leaders of psychiatry and behavioral science.

Job Summary


Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Preparation for funding - grants, contracts, etc.
  • Preparation and submission of peer-reviewed scholarly manuscripts (drafting, editing, formatting, etc. ).
  • Maintains common scholarly documents for faculty investigators (bio-sketches, facilities descriptions, etc).

General Responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with key stakeholders (e.g., investigators, statisticians, project managers) to determine writing needs, review sponsor and regulatory requirements, organize writing assignments, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Drafts, structures, and/or edits scientific and professional content while applying scientific knowledge, advanced principles of persuasive writing, and best practices in formatting and organization.
  • Applies critical thinking to help translate complex concepts into clear, impactful messages for scientific and lay audiences.
  • Contributes to project management efforts through meticulous documentation of writing progress, adherence to established procedures and timelines, and document version control.
  • Provides basic regulatory guidance to ensure documents comply with relevant standards and internal procedures.
  • Develops strategies to improve materials for target audiences.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical discipline

  • 2 years In scientific writing or editing

Working Conditions / Demands


This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
