What You’ll Work On

Executes and conducts research, development, or scientific/ technical activities. May facilitate, develop or recommend improvements and/or new procedures related to products or processes. Provides technical review, direction and feedback to others and may lead small to medium projects. Independently develop data presentations for use within organization.

  • With minimal oversight, investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement with limited assistance.
  • Executes experiments, accomplishes established milestones and summarizes data, interprets results.
  • Conducts moderately complex experiments and recommends options for other project approaches or experiments.
  • Analyzes and evaluates data from multiple disciplines, considering various factors. Possess and applies knowledge of principles, practices and procedures and can drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Possess and applies knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to evaluate data.
  • With oversight, recognizes and resolves basic to intermediate technical problems.
  • CFT members participate in project planning and updates, execute project plan with oversight from leaders; participate in defining project goals, develop timelines, comprehend resource requirements.
  • Participates in project planning for moderately complex projects with oversight from leaders, participates in defining project goals; develops simple timelines; begins to comprehend resource requirements.
  • Presents scientific observations to management level within Abbott.
  • Participate in routine maintenance and lab safety.
  • Appropriately documents experimental results and procedures independently, including verification and validation reports according to established guidelines.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Does not have any direct reports but may coach research associates and assist in problem solving.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics, with a minimum of 4 yrs.

Or

  • M.S. with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.

Or

  • Working knowledge of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data, with increasing knowledge complexity with experience.
  • Awareness of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • Experience in cell culture and recombinant protein expression and purification. Demonstrated knowledge of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic propagation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of separation sciences and chromatography using Fast Performance Liquid Chromatography (FPLC) systems.
  • Experience in protein crystallography and structure analysis.
  • Advanced computer skills: demonstrated ability to apply new coding and scripting languages (i.e. Python etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with connected devices and automated liquid handlers are strongly preferred.
  • Experience in cell culture and recombinant protein expression and purification. Demonstrated knowledge of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic propagation. Demonstrated knowledge of separation sciences and chromatography using FPLC systems.
  • Experience in protein crystallography and structure analysis.

Advanced enzymology skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with steady and transient state kinetics.
  • Understanding of assay development for HTS application.
  • Experience in using stopped flow spectroscopy.

The base pay for this position is $68,000.00 – $136,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
