Scrub Nurse

• Pre-operative Preparation: Sets up the operating room, ensures all surgical instruments and supplies are sterile, and arranges the sterile table (Mayo stand) with required equipment.
• Sterile Field Maintenance: Adheres to strict infection control protocols to maintain a sterile environment, including scrubbing, gowning, and gloving the surgical team.
• Intra-operative Assistance: Passes instruments, sutures, and supplies directly to the surgeon, often anticipating needs based on, for example, hand signals or the stage of surgery.
• Instrument/Supply Count: Collaborates with the circulating nurse to perform precise, mandatory counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after the procedure to prevent retained items.
• Post-operative Care: Assists with dressing application, cleans/prepares instruments for sterilization, and helps transfer the patient to the recovery area.
