 Brief Description Of Duties
 
 
 
 The Learning Specialist, reporting to the Assistant Dean for Academic &amp; Student Affairs, supports the academic success and professional growth of students within the School of Health Professions and collaborates with faculty to enhance teaching and learning across all programs. This role provides individualized and group academic support, develops targeted learning resources, and partners with faculty to implement evidence-based instructional strategies that strengthen student learning, retention, and progression. Through individualized coaching, comprehensive learning assessments, and evidence-based strategies, this role helps students strengthen study habits, refine test-taking skills, and deepen clinical reasoning. The Learning Specialist plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that reflects the diverse needs of health professions education. The Learning Specialist will work closely with students, faculty, program directors, chairs and student support services across the School of Health Professions and university. The role requires flexibility, creativity, and the ability to support a diverse and rigorous academic community.

 Offer specialized support tailored to the demands of health professions curricula (e.g., medical terminology, anatomy &amp; physiology, clinical documentation, practical skills assessment).

 Develop and deliver academic workshops, tutorials, and success seminars for students at various stages of their programs, including preparing for high-stakes assessments.

 Collaborate with department faculty, to identify students at risk academically, design and implement individualized academic success plans to support their progression.

 Provide faculty development workshops on topics such as learning science, student engagement, and strategies for supporting students struggling with academic content.

 Assist faculty in identifying early-alert indicators and intervention strategies to support student persistence and success.

Collaborating with academic partners, faculty and staff, the Specialist provides strategies and academic reinforcement to students throughout their academic program and as they prepare for success with the NCLEX-RN exam. EDUCATION: High school diploma required; associate or bachelor&rsquo;s degree in education, Youth Development, or a related field preferred. Must have experience working with children and youth in an educational or afterschool setting.

Job Description
A Glimpse of the Job
The Writing Lab at Texas A&amp;M University at Galveston is an academic support unit focusing on the development of communication skills and information literacy in order to support students&rsquo; success toward their academic and professional goals. Located in the library and sharing a space with the multimedia Studio, we provide in-person and virtual assistance to TAMUG students in the form of 30- and 60-minute consultations on all aspects of writing process. Our undergraduate consultants reflect the range of majors at TAMUG and they are prepared to assist students with academic and professional writing. In addition to our undergraduate consultants, we are seeking a part-time Learning Facilitator I. Under the supervision of the Director, the Learning Facilitator will provide guidance and feedback to students during writing consultants at the Writing Lab and will provide in-class academic support in a developmental reading/writing course.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Writing Center Training Delivery<ul><li>
Assist undergraduate students at all levels and in a variety of majors in all aspects of the writing process in individual, 30/60-minute consultations</li><li>
Advise students on finding, evaluating, incorporating, and citing sources</li><li>
Consult with student writers about big-picture and sentence-level conventions of academic, professional, and occasionally creative writing</li><li>
Document consultations in post-appointment summaries</li></ul>
Classroom Learning Facilitation<ul><li>
Provide guidance and feedback to help ASCC 003 learners understand content and strengthen their skills</li><li>
Assist with leading learners through course concepts and components to achieve desired learning objectives</li></ul>
Administrative Support<ul><li>
Coordinate with the Director of the Writing Lab and the Program Coordinator for Developmental Education to support the delivery of course content</li></ul>
Professional Development and Mentorship<ul><li>
Attend required staff meetings and professional development trainings</li><li>
Assist in providing oversight and mentorship to undergraduate tutors, providing feedback to the Director</li></ul>
