 Job Description
 
 
 
 Assists anesthesia providers with patient assessment, monitoring, transporting, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management. Maintains and troubleshoots anesthesia equipment malfunctions. Ensures necessary equipment and supply inventory remain in stock. Provides routine and emergency services for anesthesiologists. Assists with schedule preparations, including emergent and urgent surgical procedures involving anesthesia. Assists anesthesia professional staff with preparation and draping of patients for invasive monitoring/procedures and anticipates needs for invasive monitor insertion and procedures. Sets up operating room for cases, including preparation of laryngoscope, intubation equipment, IV solution, tubing set-up, and IV warming devices. Provides peri-operative technical support to the anesthesia professional staff for delivery of patient care. Assists with the procurement, assembly, and operation of specialized equipment such as humidification units, fiber optic endoscopic equipment, rapid infusion devices/blood warmers, patient warming devices, neuromuscular devices, infusion pumps, and syringes. Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies, and personnel to facilitate department functions and ensure efficient flow of cases. Cleans and sets up anesthesia equipment.  General Statement of Duties:Under the direction of the licensed anesthetist and the RN, the Anesthesia Technician provides anesthesia support to the licensed anesthetist during surgical procedures. The Anesthesia Technician anticipates the needs of the licensed anesthetist through preparation and maintenance of supplies, patient monitoring equipment and anesthesia delivery systems. This includes anticipating anesthesia needs, maintaining stock levels, setting up supplies and equipment, cleaning and storage of equipment, equipment operation, basic troubleshooting and ensuring equipment operation and maintenance. The Anesthesia Technician is an integral member of the perioperative team and he/she works in a collaborative role with the circulating RN and the perioperative team to ensure a safe and optimal patient perioperative experience.

 Knowledgeable of The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation policies and procedures, sentinel events, environment of care and other TJC mandates directly related to anesthesia and patient safety.

 Makes available, assemble, and assist with operation of specialized equipment such as fiberoptic equipment; rapid infusion devices/blood warmers; patient warming devices; neuromuscular devices and infusion pumps

 Work Experience
 
 
 
 High School Diploma or equivalent is required. CPR certification is required.

 Six months clinical healthcare experience (PCT, CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) or equivalent preferred.
