Our Auto Claims Management Team is Growing!
The Auto Casualty Claims Management Team will be responsible for the direct supervision of the Auto Casualty Claims unit. Scope of the position includes ensuring compliance with State mandated claims handling guidelines and assuring proper investigation and conclusion of claims. Monitor production, staff development and the quality of files assigned to the Unit.
**This is a hybrid position (after training). Seeking local candidates to work in either our Bedford Park location, approximately one mile south of Chicago Midway Airport, or our Oak Brook location.**
DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul><li>Lead, motivate, and provide direction to the Auto Casualty Unit staff members</li><li>
Conduct file and diary reviews for the purpose of monitoring adjuster's work and to ensure appropriate investigation, documentation and fair claim settlement practices are followed, and company quality standards are maintained.</li><li>
Place appropriate authority level on claim files based upon investigation of facts and approve settlement checks within authority.</li><li>
Review reports, design and support the implementation of procedures which improve claim settlement and customer service levels, and ensure that desired quality and quantity levels are maintained.</li><li>
Oversee the implementation and monitoring of procedures to assure effectiveness and compliance.</li><li>
Determine training needs of the department and establish and participate in programs to ensure training needs of personnel and processes.</li><li>
Work with staff relative to any suits drawn on cases with respect to litigation handling.</li><li>
Develop and manage a cost effective defense strategy.</li><li>
Identify Systems issues/problems/suggestions for enhancements.</li><li>
Manage the administrative functions of the unit which include:<ul><li>
Review, provide direction and assign new losses</li><li>

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:<ul><li>
5+ years auto liability claims, PD, Casualty Claims and/or supervisory experience</li><li>

BWC&rsquo;s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC&rsquo;s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval.
What You'll Be Doing: 
Under general direction, you will supervise one claims service team consisting of multiple claims specialists &amp; multiple medical/rehab staff (e.g. Industrial Rehab Nurse, Rehab Case Management Specialist) in managing lost time compensation claims.<ul><li>
Supervise and Lead Team-Oversee one claims service team consisting of multiple claims specialists, ensuring effective management of lost-time compensation claims.</li><li>
Develop and Implement Guidelines-Create and enforce new claims handling procedures to maintain compliance with state, federal, and BWC laws, rules, and regulations.</li><li>
Monitor Quality and Productivity-Review case assignments, monitor accuracy and timeliness, and utilize management reports to track pending cases and performance metrics.</li><li>
Identify and Resolve Issues-Address problem areas such as incorrect award calculations and insufficient documentation; recommend corrective actions.</li><li>
Ensure Documentation and Compliance-Verify that all necessary documentation is obtained for hearings and identify claims requiring vocational intervention based on injury severity and claimant history.</li><li>

Salary Information: 
Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state. Current employees of the state will be placed in the appropriate step based on any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code. Movement to the next step of the pay range (a roughly 4% increase) will occur after six months, assuming job performance is acceptable. Thereafter, an employee will advance one step in the pay range every year until the highest step of the pay range is reached. There may also be possible cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements begin after five (5) years of state service. 
 
Transportation: 
Position may require travel; therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide own transportation &amp;/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.

Scope of the position includes ensuring compliance with State mandated claims handling guidelines, understanding of policy language and coverages, as well as assuring proper investigation and conclusions of claims. Position also includes, monitoring production, staff development and the quality of files assigned to the Unit. 
DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul><li>Lead, motivate, and provide direction to the unit adjusters</li><li>
Conduct file and diary reviews for the purpose of monitoring adjuster's work and to assure appropriate documentation is available, fair claim settlement practices are followed, and company quality standards are maintained</li><li>
Place appropriate authority level on claim files based upon determination of coverage, investigation of facts and approve settlement checks within authority</li><li>
Review reports and support the implementation of procedures which improve overall claim settlement process, customer service levels, and ensure that desired quality and quantity levels are maintained</li><li>
Oversee the implementation and monitoring of procedures to assure effectiveness and compliance</li><li>
Determine training needs of the department / unit, establish and participate in programs to ensure training needs of personnel and processes</li><li>
Identify Systems issues / concerns and make suggestions for enhancements</li><li>
Manage the administrative functions of the unit which include:

Setting performance objectives and monitoring performance results</li><li>
Conduct performance appraisals</li><li>
Daily review of files for payment approvals over adjuster authority and the transfer of files to appropriate areas (SIU, Litigation, Total Loss, Subrogation, etc.)</li><li>

Review and respond to Department of Insurance inquiries</li><li>
Review and direct claim activity on customer inquiries</li><li>

</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:<ul><li>
5+ years auto liability property damage claims handling experience</li><li>
Prior Supervisory experience over Auto Adjusters preferred</li><li>
Prior Non-Standard Auto Claims experience a plus, not required</li><li>
Strong technical and administrative background in auto claims handling</li><li>
Ability to work independently on technical and administrative matters in accordance with company policy and procedures</li><li>

Review, assign, and oversee claim files to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant handling by claim staff. Directly handle and provide oversight of complex, litigated, and high-exposure workers&rsquo; compensation claims. Establish, review, and authorize claim reserves within designated authority levels in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements. Evaluate medical, legal, indemnity, and expense invoices to ensure appropriateness, necessity, and claim-relatedness; negotiate disputed charges to resolution. Authorize and process workers&rsquo; compensation payments within established authority using claim management and payment systems. Guide and support claim staff in vendor selection and management, including legal counsel, medical case management, surveillance, and other external resources. Ensure adherence to corporate claim handling standards, internal controls, and special client requirements at all times. Qualifications: Required 10+ years of Workers&rsquo; Compensation claims handling experience, including full claim investigation, evaluation, and resolution.
