Summary of action: We are a rapidly growing company, expanding our workforce and looking for a business unit manager type to help us create a purchasing department from the ground up. This is a tall ask, likely to be set up in phases and needing a team, processes, and systems to be built along the way. We will spend at least $30,000,000 on materials next year, so be ready for the challenge. There are lots of low-hanging fruit and wins to be captured along the way, though! We have a leader and many great people to guide this project, but we ask that you apply only if you are ready to be part of building the ship. Some experience in construction or fencing is a plus!
 
In its end state, the purchasing manager's responsibilities include developing purchasing strategies, sourcing materials and goods, maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, coordinating with internal teams on their supply needs, and overseeing the purchasing team's daily activities. <div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Minimum and Additional Requirements</h2></div>
<div>Requires a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Public Administration, or a job related field and at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in procurement or contract administration, including five (5) years in a senior management role.</div> 
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Preferred Qualifications</h2></div>
<div><ul><li>Master&rsquo;s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.</li><li>
Certification as a Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO), Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB), or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).</li><li>
Experience within a higher education or public-sector environment governed by the South Carolina Consolidated Procurement Code.</li><li>
Familiarity with enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft or similar ERP/eProcurement platforms.</li></ul></div>

We&rsquo;re currently in search of an independent thinking, quick-thinking, outgoing and productive Director of Purchasing to join our team.
Plan, organize, direct and control all purchasing functions of the hotel to ensure that all purchasing complies with the 1 Hotels sustainable brand ethos and brand standards and that the highest quality product is purchased at the best possible price.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<ul><li>
Ensure that all purchasing functions promote 1 Hotels sustainable and environmentally conscious purchasing practices and minimize the hotel&rsquo;s environmental footprint to include but not limited to buying from local vendors, sourcing products from businesses with a similar ethos, procuring environmentally friendly products, choosing products made from recycled materials, using minimal packaging and transporting products via the most environmentally friendly method.</li><li>
Act as a liaison between individuals in the hotel and supplier representatives in the procurement of goods and services required to achieve objectives of each department. Place orders for all goods and services and schedule deliveries to meet the operational needs of each department.</li><li>
Work closely with the Food &amp; Beverage and Culinary leadership teams and procure all food &amp; beverage products according to business needs and specifications with an emphasis on organic, local and seasonal products. Forecast operational needs and schedule deliveries of all food &amp; beverage items.</li><li>
Determine the food and beverage requirements for all catering menus and order according to guarantee of the menus.</li><li>
Monitor the grade and quality of products received to ensure that they meet established standards.</li><li>
Obtain bids from vendors and determine the best possible price for desired items.</li><li>
Coordinate with Avendra Field Representative to maximize usage of Avendra vendors.</li><li>
Check and ensure appropriate levels of inventories are maintained to minimize waste and maximize ration turnover.</li><li>
Direct regular inventory audits.</li><li>
Ensure regular, ongoing communication occurs (e.g. daily rallies, divisional/departmental meetings, attendance at regular and ad hoc hotel meetings).</li><li>
Stay informed of market trends and introduce new products and services to drive guest engagement, increase revenue and ensure a competitive position in the market.</li><li>
Identify opportunities to optimize performance and create value by challenging existing processes, encouraging innovation and driving necessary change.</li><li>
Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships and ensure direct reports do the same.</li><li>
Provide inspirational leadership to enliven the 1 Hotels Vision, Mission and Compass; deliver on Our Promise, provide Good-Natured Service and uphold our Brand Pillars.</li><li>
Recruit and select talented leaders and team members who will enhance the 1 Hotels culture and demonstrate functional expertise; ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to meet business demands.</li><li>
Train department team members: plan, assign and direct work; reward and discipline team members; address complaints and resolve problems. Provide guidance and direction to subordinates through coaching, counseling, mentoring, and reviewing performance.</li><li>
Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence and inspire others; advocate sound business decisions; demonstrate honesty and integrity; lead by example.</li><li>

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Executive Director of Finance. Has oversight for team members of the purchasing department.
QUALIFICATIONS &amp; SKILLS 
 
REQUIRED:<ul><li>
A post-secondary diploma or degree in a field of study related to this profession or 2 years of experience in a comparable position and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li><li>
Prior experience with Birchstreet or similar Purchasing Management System.</li><li>
Requires knowledge of the principles and practices of purchasing and receiving, demonstrated leadership skills and proven achievements in optimizing team member engagement and financial performance.</li><li>
Experience successfully leading in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing demands.</li><li>
Strong interpersonal, team member relations and leadership abilities.</li><li>
Well versed in Food &amp; Beverage products and purchasing.</li><li>
Technically savvy and familiar with Purchasing operating/budgeting systems and spreadsheets.</li><li>
Ability to identify and solve problems.</li><li>
Professional and appropriate business appearance and demeanor aligned with the 1 Hotels brand and culture.</li><li>
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>
Strong attention to detail.</li><li>
Flexibility to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation.</li></ul>
PREFERRED:<ul><li>
Experience creating, implementing and working with a sustainable purchasing policy.</li><li>
Prior experience in a quality luxury hotel, restaurant or catering brand; specifically in Purchasing.</li><li>
Knowledge of hotel structure and interaction between departments.</li></ul>
