The ED Technician functions as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team and must be able to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities while demonstrating excellent communication skills. Duties are performed in accordance with hospital policies and procedures under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Manager. The Emergency Department Technician promotes and maintains the philosophy, values, standards of performance and goals of the organization and the department. They also communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team to maintain patient safety and achieve desired outcomes. The Emergency Department Technician also assists with patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse including, but not be limited to, performing activities of daily living (ADL's), obtaining clinical data including vital signs, EKGs, utilizing universal precautions, collecting specimens, performing point of care testing and recording results in medical record.<br>
</p><p></p><p>Requirements for this position are: a high school diploma or equivalent education. Two (2) years of experience in an acute hospital setting, ambulance services or ambulatory care preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred. 12-lead EKG experience preferred.

The ED Critical Care Technician is a certified and/or licensed EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or EMT-P (Paramedic) and is part of the Emergency Department patient care team who collaboratively works in a complementary and assistive role with nursing. You will communicate timely and accurate information for delegated patient care activities performed, to include observed patient responses to performed activities, to the assigned RN in a written or verbal format following hand-off communication guidelines.</li><li>
You will perform phlebotomy; collect laboratory specimens as ordered and insert saline lock.</li><li>

POSITION SUMMARY:</p><p>
To provide quality care to patients under direction of a MD, RN, LP, EMT-P, LVN in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Del Sol Medical Center and the ED philosophy, Mission, Vision and Key Values. Assists in the delivery of non narcotic medications to the ED, ED nurses, paramedics and ED medical staff during procedures. This is accomplished as a non-interruptive single task from one point to the other.</p><p></p><p>
POPULATION SERVED:</p><p>
Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Triage assess and treat patients of all ages presenting for emergency care for all body systems, conditions &amp; diseases including but not limited to Coronary, Pulmonary, Neuro, Skeletal-muscular, GI/metabolic, GU/renal GYN, integumentary, etc.</p><p></p><p>
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p><p></p><ul><li>
Demonstrates knowledge and application of EMT-Basic patient care for infant, child and adult, to include basic airway management, vital signs, urinary catheterization, cardiac monitoring, and 12 lead EKG.</li><li>
Continuous monitoring of patient status</li><li>
Continuous monitoring of supplies in the ED, replace and restock as needed.</li><li>
Participates in the unit based Quality Improvement process.</li><li>
Knowledgeable with 100% compliance with Core Measures in the Emergency Department (evidence based best demonstrated practice).</li><li>
Knowledgeable with 100% compliance with Premium Credit (best demonstrated practice).</li><li>
Provides excellent customer service following the philosophy of the hospital, and the ED with the guiding values in daily activities.</li><li>
Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient&rsquo;s right to privacy and protection of patient&rsquo;s confidentiality.</li><li>
Plans, organizes and communicates patient care activities to the patient and the MD, RN, LVN, LP, and EMT-P.</li><li>
