<div><p><b>THIS IS AN INTERNAL ONLY POSITION FOR CURRENT CROW WING COUNTY EMPLOYEES.</b></p><div><br>
Employees in this class are assigned to the Investigative Division. The Investigator position includes an extended salary above the position of patrol officer. The work involves investigating both routine and more difficult cases of suspected criminal activity within the county and requires the use of considerable discretion and application of specialized knowledge and ability in the investigation and detection of crime. Employees manage a caseload of up to 50 cases at one time and work on these cases to bring them to a successful conclusion. Assignments are received in both written and verbal form. Cases are normally concluded with the preparation of a case for prosecution. An Investigator decides what violations of law have taken place and determines if the violation is civil or criminal and proceeds to determine the course of the investigation. While work is performed in accordance with established rules and procedures, an Investigator must exercise considerable independent judgment in working on specific cases. Advice and assistance is available from the Sergeant of Investigations on unusual situations. Employees in this classification are occasionally subject to call outs while off duty time. Work is reviewed through observation of performance and personal inspection and review of written reports.</div></div><p></p>

In this investigative role, you will conduct complex and long-term investigations of fraud and corruption involving affordable housing subsidies, development tax credits, and entities engaged in housing-related business with New York City using all types of investigative tools, including subpoenas, interviews, physical and electronic surveillance, undercover operations, and confidential informants.<br>

Key Responsibilities:<br>

<ul><li>Lead investigations into suspected fraud, corruption, and misconduct involving City employees, City-funded housing developers, contractors, vendors, and public benefit recipients.</li></ul>
- Examine a wide range of records and data -including development filings, housing applications, financial statements, and agency records and policies -to detect vulnerabilities and irregularities.<br>
<ul><li>Plan and execute investigative operations, including interviews of witnesses and subjects, surveillance activities, subpoenas, and fieldwork across New York City.</li><li>Collaborate closely with DOI attorneys, auditors, analysts, and investigators, as well as prosecutors and other law enforcement agencies, in advancing investigations and sharing findings.</li><li>Draft clear investigative reports and written referrals</li><li>Propose operational and procedural reforms to strengthen agency controls and reduce risk.</li><li>Maintain meticulous case documentation in compliance with DOI standards, and uphold confidentiality and integrity in all investigative activities.</li><li>Participate in cross-team case briefings, trainings, and interagency coordination meetings.</li></ul><br>

<p><b>**INTERESTED APPLICANTS MUST APPLY ON THE UNION COUNTY WEBSITE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION**</b></p><p>The Union County Coroner is now hiring a full-time Investigator to provide crime scene and investigation support to our rapidly growing community. Under general supervision of the Coroner, the Investigator performs post-mortem examinations of bodies and investigates deaths of persons; consults with law enforcement agencies; testifies in court; photographs and documents death scenes. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position serves on-call, as needed.</p><p>The Union County Coroner's Office serves a population of approximately 64,971 citizens and performs 250-300 investigations per year. Our office has strong professional relationships with the medical community, criminal justice system, and referring coroners.</p><p>If you meet the requirements below and are interested in joining our dedicated and professional team, we encourage you to apply.</p><p>QUALIFICATIONS</p><p>Completion of a secondary education (high school diploma or GED); five (5) or more years of experience in a medical related field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Be able to pass a criminal background investigation.</p><p>LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Medicolegal Death Investigator certification issued by ABMDI or must be willing to obtain certification within 18 months of employment and maintain certification while employed in this classification; FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 courses; must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the County's vehicle insurance policy.</p><p>EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Motor vehicle, personal computer, applicable computer software, printer, copy machine, fax machine, cameras; medical equipment; and other standard business office equipment; gas mask; radio; cell phone.</p><p>INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee has exposure to; unclean or unsanitary conditions, bodily fluids etc.; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; uses or works around firearms; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds, confined spaces; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; must be able to push, pull, lift 2-500+ pounds; has to work irregular hours.</p><p>Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.</p><p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p><p>(1) Examines decedent's body for signs of trauma and/or unusual circumstances; verifies post-mortem changes are consistent with the situation and circumstances; relays the absence of any signs of life to coroner or deputy coroner for pronouncement of death.</p><p>(2) Surveys death scenes; collects information, evidence, blood and bodily fluids, and other items related to the cause or manner of death; photographs body and surrounding conditions, and documents death scenes to preserve the circumstances of the death/scene; requests medical, mental health, and/or employment records; obtains necessary search warrants as directed by prosecutor and/or law enforcement.</p><p>(3) Interviews family members, physicians, nurses, law enforcement, and EMS to obtain medical history, lifestyle patterns, incident, and other reports related to the case; communicates information to Coroner's staff and administrative staff; works in a professional manner with prosecutor and law enforcement; testifies in court or before grand jury if required; assists with morgue maintenance management.</p><p>(4) Prepares written reports detailing observations and investigation findings; completes inventory and proper packaging of decedent's personal valuables for safe return to legal next of kin; gathers controlled substances (prescriptions) of the deceased for inventory and destruction.</p><p>(5) Coordinates with the prosecutor&rsquo;s office and law enforcement, the movement and transportation of the body; under the direction of the coroner or deputy coroner, prepares and causes the performance of an autopsy.</p><p>(6) Assists with Medication Inventory; assists with Maintaining Stats; assists with sending Autopsy and Coroner Report requests; represents Coroner&rsquo;s office for mandated and assigned review boards.</p><p>(7) Maintains required licensures, certification, and continuing education requirements, if any.</p><p>(8) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.</p><p>(9) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance</p><p>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><p>(10) Performs other related duties as assigned.</p><p>(11) Attends staff meetings as assigned.</p><p>MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS</p><p>Knowledge of: *County, Department, and Division goals and objectives; *County, Department, and Division policies and procedures; *personnel rules and regulations; workplace safety; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; case management; physiology;
