POSITION SUMMARY:
We&rsquo;re hiring an experienced Liability Desk Adjuster to handle third-party claims end-to-end&mdash;coverage, liability evaluation, damages assessment, negotiation, and resolution. You will move files with urgency, make sound, defensible decisions, and own the customer experience without hand-holding.
RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>
Manage a caseload of liability claims from FNOL to closure with accuracy, urgency, and empathy.</li><li>
Analyze coverage against policy forms/endorsements; draft clear, defensible coverage positions and reservation/denial letters.</li><li>
Plan and execute investigations: recorded statements, scene/doc reviews, witness interviews, social/open-source checks as appropriate.</li><li>
Assess liability and comparative fault; apply jurisdictional standards and good-faith requirements.</li><li>
Evaluate bodily injury and property damage exposures (specials/general damages, future meds, wage loss); validate causation.</li><li>
Negotiate fair, timely settlements consistent with facts, policy, and venue; document rationale.</li><li>
Set and adjust reserves based on exposure; surface outliers early with tight file discipline.</li><li>
Coordinate vendors and experts (field, medical, biomech, surveillance) with precise instructions and accountability.</li><li>
Manage litigated matters with panel counsel&mdash;strategy, discovery, budgets, reporting, and resolution planning.</li><li>
Communicate proactively with insureds, claimants/attorneys, brokers, and internal stakeholders&mdash;no black holes.</li><li>
Maintain meticulous notes, diary control, SLA compliance, and regulatory adherence.</li></ul>
QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>
Liability adjusting experience required handling GL/BI/PD claims.</li><li>
Proven end-to-end file ownership: investigation, coverage analysis, valuation, negotiation, and closure.</li><li>
Strong writing and negotiation skills; comfortable delivering hard news respectfully.</li><li>
Working knowledge of claim regulations, time limits, and Unfair Claims Practices.</li><li>
Technically diligent: disciplined diary, clean documentation, accurate data.</li><li>
Active adjusting license(s) as required; ability to obtain additional licenses if needed.</li></ul>
Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000, based on a 40 hour work week. This compensation will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate&rsquo;s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position&rsquo;s business line, scope and level. <li>Determines coverage and deductible</li>
<li>Obtains and reviews all required investigative materials (photos, police reports, etc.)</li>
<li>Interviews claimants, insureds, and witnesses to determine claim validity, may travel to site to inspect</li>
<li>Maintains and updates thorough claim notes in a timely manner throughout lifespan of claim</li>
<li>Sets appropriate reserves for claims</li>
<li>Communicates claim decisions to claimant, insured</li>
<li>Works with auto repair provider or contractors to establish appropriate repair costs</li>
<li>Requests payments through claims database</li>
<li>Fields calls from insured, or claimant regarding status of claims</li>
<li>Submits claim to Litigation Manager to request additional authority on claims that exceed current authority</li>
<li>Maintains files of related documents and forms electronically for clients and insureds according to record retention policy</li>
<li>Prepares report for insured when claim is closed</li>
<li>Works with underwriting to help provide relevant information on losses for renewal rates as well as Risk Management to identify trends</li>
<li>Acts as a backup and as a resource to other Adjusters</li>
<li>Prepares reports on large losses for internal use as well as for reinsurers as necessary</li>
<li>Answers questions regarding loss runs from insureds</li>
<li>Identifies subrogation potential and pursues recovery</li>

How you'll make an impact 
 
Investigates, evaluates, disposes and settles less complex claims with moderate supervision and includes the investigation, determination and evaluation of coverage, liability and damages and the setting of proper reserves. Incumbents at this level typically hold claims reserve and settlement authority of up to $5,000 liability and/or $10,000 workers compensation or greater. Exercises proper judgment and decision making to analyze the claims exposure to determine the proper course of action and to appropriately settle the claim. Interacts extensively with various parties involved in the claim process. Handles claims consistent with clients' and corporate policies, procedures and &quot;best practices&quot; and also in accordance with any statutory, regulatory and ethics requirements. Documents and communicates all claim activity timely and effectively and in a manner which supports the outcome of the claim file. Incumbents at this level should be able to work at full case load capacity.
 
About You 
 
Required: High school diploma and 3 years related claims experience required. Appropriately licensed and/or certified in all states in which claims are being handled or able to obtain the licenses/certification per local requirements. Knowledge of accepted industry standards and practices. Computer experience with related claims and business software.
 
 
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree preferred.
 
 
Behaviors: Ability to think critically, solve problems, plan and organize activities, serve clients, negotiate, effectively communicate verbally and in writing and embrace new challenges. Analytical skill necessary to make decisions and resolve issues inherent in handling of claims.
