Position Summary:</b></p><p>
The Library Technician provides primary leadership for Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services at the Goddard Library, supporting the research and learning needs of students, faculty, and staff across Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary&rsquo;s multi campus and online network. This role manages borrowing and lending workflows, communicates with patrons and partner libraries, and ensures timely and accurate delivery of materials. Additional responsibilities include serving as the library liaison to the Student Government Association (SGA), cataloging and digital archiving of Doctor of Ministry (DMin) theses, creating thematic library displays, assisting with opening and closing procedures, and performing other duties as assigned.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Key Responsibilities:
</b></p><ul><li>Interlibrary Loan (Primary Responsibility)</li></ul><p>
o Manage all borrowing and lending requests using OCLC WorldShare, bibliographic databases, and the library&rsquo;s Integrated Library System (ILS).</p><p>
o Verify citations, locate materials, and ensure accurate request fulfillment for patrons and partner institutions.</p><p>
o Monitor request queues, update item statuses, and maintain accurate records in ILL and circulation systems.</p><p>
o Coordinate shipping and receiving of physical materials, including packing, labeling, and courier arrangements.</p><p>
o Scan and deliver electronic articles in compliance with copyright regulations.</p><p>
o Communicate with patrons regarding request status, arrivals, overdue items, and problem resolution.</p><p>

This is the lead level class in the Library Technician series. 8. Create course and bibliographic records, reading lists, citations, and searchable IDs. Process materials from online catalogs and ensure accurate matches.<br>

9. Configure and manage automatic notices from library system; and follow up on overdue notices to recover library/media center materials not returned.

10. Monitor and respond to inquiries sent to the Circulation contact.<br>

11. Remove obsolete and worn materials from the library center collection and update files.<br>

12. Assess fines for overdue, damaged and lost materials. Resolve conflicts with patrons resulting from assessment, issue warrants for refunds.<br>

13. Prepare and distribute reading lists and publications; develop and prepare bulletin boards, displays and posters.<br>

14. Participate in planning and management of shelf space needs for various collections.<br>

15. Coordinate circulation activities for library center materials with faculty and other library units.<br>

16. Hire, train and evaluate the work of student workers as assigned in the work related to circulation, shelving and other library center activities.<br>

Major Duties

Responsible for checking library materials in and out and verifies that customers are authorized to use the facility. Registers new customers, issues library cards, and files applications per policy. Explains library rules, regulations, circulation procedures, and policies to library customers. Accepts payments for lost or damaged materials. Takes requests for reserves and inter/intra library loans, and periodically checks to see that requests are filled. Keeps current record of overdue materials. Accurately compiles and records statistics on library usage such as book circulation, attendance, computer searches, reference questions, etc. Assists customers in locating and utilizing library departments, catalogs, directories, indexes, files, and standard reference materials.

Performs a variety of general office and clerical tasks in support of library operation. Types reports, overdue notices, letters, bills, and book orders in accordance with specific instructions. Answers the telephone, takes messages and refers callers to appropriate staff members. Arranges and files items in subject and chronological order where file coding is readily clear. Picks up, sorts, and distributes mail accurately and within established time frames.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Qualifications
