Job Summary and Qualifications</h5><ul><li>
Utilize professional judgment in interpretations of clinical lab results and in responding to unusual situations. Utilize judgment and discretion in considering sample integrity and acceptability, process calibration, reagent concentration and stability, quality control relationship to unknown results, evaluation of unexpected patient results and error identification.</li><li>
Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests, including set up of supplies and equipment to analyze specimens (i.e. body fluids, tissue, sputum, etc.) according to written procedures. Forward unresolved problems to supervisor. Maintain the integrity of the specimens throughout the process.</li><li>
Adhere to established quality control policies and procedures in order to guarantee the reliability of data. Perform quality control procedures as required and maintain adequate control records to include problem log documentation, reporting any abnormal or unusual variances to supervisor and/or Medical Director as appropriate. Perform daily QC review.</li><li>
Coordinate quality assurance and participate in quality improvement activities.</li><li>
Document test results and report results to nursing units and/or physicians according to established procedure. Inform supervisor or designee of unusual or unexpected test results after verification and accessing validity of the original test results. Recognize critical and/or life threatening results and immediately telephone critical values to the nursing units and/or physicians.</li><li>
Check, calibrate and maintain equipment in working order, performing preventative maintenance at prescribed intervals and as appropriate. Troubleshoot technical and procedural problems, make repairs and utilize service &ldquo;hot&rdquo; line as needed; arrange service call as appropriate. Keep related records.</li><li>
Maintain all records and documentation, i.e. calibrations, temperatures, etc., needed to comply with CAP, Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies.</li><li>
Maintain technical proficiency in a minimum of two (2) of the four (4) technical areas on the day shift; or in four (4) of the technical areas on the evening and night shifts; OR if scheduled less than or equal to 8 hours per week, maintain technical proficiency in a minimum of one (1) of the four (4) technical areas on the day shift; or in two (2) of the technical areas on the evening and night shifts. Technical areas include: Transfusion Service, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology.</li><li>
Display courtesy and professionalism at all times while providing timely, helpful service to all patients, clients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel. Maintain a professional decorum within the work environment under all types of circumstances, demonstrating ability to remain calm in tense and/or emergency situations.</li><li>
Perform duties of charge technologist in the absence of the Supervisor as assigned.</li><li>
Act as technical resource to lab and all hospital employees; provide instruction on basic theory, technical skills and applications of test procedures.</li><li>
Ensure confidentiality of employee, legal, client/patient, budget and all company matters.</li><li>
Perform phlebotomy duties and effectively communicate the procedure to the patient. Demonstrates competency in obtaining capillary or venous samples from both the inpatient and outpatient population served by the hospital.</li><li>
 Perform phlebotomy for legal alcohol draws and testify in court as required.</li><li>
 Perform specimen processing duties.</li><li>
Ensure adequate reagent supplies according to Laboratory and Section policies. Receive and store supplies per established procedure.</li><li>
Conduct tests on proficiency survey specimens and evaluate proficiency testing results.</li><li>
Review previous day&rsquo;s results for clerical, analytical errors or unusual results, in the absence of the Section Supervisor, or as assigned.</li><li>
Assist Section Supervisor in the evaluation of new procedures, installation of new instrumentation, and training on new or modified instrumentation or equipment.</li><li>
Perform technical, procedural and administrative problem solving.</li><li>
Train and orient Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians including students.</li><li>
Assist in the preparation and revision of procedures as directed by Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, utilizing the CLSI format.</li><li>
May assist Section Supervisor to prepare for Department and Laboratory inspections.</li><li>
Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings and continuing educational programs; maintain current knowledge in the field.</li><li>

 Key Accountabilities &amp; Activities:

 Adherence and compliance with cleanroom regulations that focus on aseptic techniques in cleanroom facilities.
 </li>

 Perform GMP Manipulation in Clean Rooms following accreditation standards and perform aseptic tissue processing and production of cellular therapies for clinical use, ensuring that harvested tissue is safely retrieved, processed, and destroyed according to the documented procedures.

 Comply with protocols for the culture and transplantation of different cell sources for use in the orthopaedic setting.

Medical Lab Technician/Medical Technologist

<div>Role Purpose:
To provide support to the Orthobiologics Laboratory in the day to day running and regulatory compliance of the cellular therapies facility and associated clinical activities; to perform technical laboratory functions in specialty areas specific to his/her competency and as determined by the Management of the Laboratory Department.
Key Accountabilities &amp; Activities:
<ul><li>Adherence and compliance with cleanroom regulations that focus on aseptic techniques in cleanroom facilities.
</li><li>Perform GMP Manipulation in Clean Rooms following accreditation standards and perform aseptic tissue processing and production of cellular therapies for clinical use, ensuring that harvested tissue is safely retrieved, processed, and destroyed according to the documented procedures.
</li><li>Comply with protocols for the culture and transplantation of different cell sources for use in the orthopaedic setting.
</li><li>Be skilled and certified in cleanroom cell therapy Lab, able to aseptically prepare tissue culture media, supplements, and reagents.
</li><li>Acquiring and analyzing specimen data by flow cytometer.
</li><li>Perform quality control procedures, verify, document, and validate the accuracy of the laboratory data to assess the reproducibility and validity of current laboratory methods.
</li><li>Monitor Key Performance Indicators for cleanroom facility.
</li><li>Participate in the routine maintenance of the clean room environment and ancillary facilities, including equipment checks and calibration, environmental monitoring and cleaning as directed in SOPs.
</li><li>To have, to acquire and to develop specialist skills to recognize anomalies and ensure these are communicated / documented properly and be able to undertake investigation and remedial action, if directed to do so.
</li><li>Maintain strict confidentiality and proper storage and back-up of patient records and test results.
</li><li>Assist in the development of research protocols and procedures.
</li><li>Assists with evaluation and implementation of relevant new laboratory services.
</li><li>Participate in quality improvement and quality surveillance activities within Aspetar, including audits and inspections.
</li><li>Interact with other staff to solve problems and interpret patients&rsquo; laboratory results within the framework of the Orthobiological Laboratory.
</li><li>Review and maintain internal and external laboratory safety programmes, including safe handling and proper disposal of specimens and other laboratory materials, and implementing of corrective actions, when necessary, in compliance with statutory requirements.
</li><li>Assist in environmental monitoring procedures (measure, monitor and accurately record), using agreed quality control procedures, other duties related to QA.
</li><li>Monthly review of building management system documents for Liquid Nitrogen levels and temperatures in cryogenic tanks.
</li><li>Ensure the health, safety and welfare of fellow employees, visitors and contractors, so far as is reasonably practicable.
</li><li>Participate in Laboratory as well as Hospital Training and Education Programs.
</li><li>Provide appropriate training to other employees, as required.
</li><li>Process human samples using validated protocols and techniques with a high degree of competency.
</li><li>Record and maintain complete documentation throughout all phases of laboratory testing according to Laboratory and/or Hospital requirements.
</li><li>Record and maintain effective inventory control to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
</li><li>Record applicable patient data/results in Laboratory Information System.
</li><li>Inform the Laboratory Director in case of any procedural discrepancies for appropriate action.
</li><li>Participate in preparing the laboratory for accreditation by national and international bodies.
</li><li>Comply with national and international accreditation requirements.
</li><li>Comply with policies set down by the Qatar Ministry of Public Health and the Aspetar Hospital.
</li><li>Ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards, laboratory safety regulations and quality control / quality assurance programs.
</li><li>Demonstrate a commitment to providing a quality service.
</li><li>Comply with employee obligations regarding Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control and Quality Improvement as set down in Aspetar Hospital&rsquo;s Policy and Procedure Manual.
</li><li>Maintain confidentiality in relation to discussions, disclosure of records, and information concerning the Aspetar.
</li><li>Maintain a discrimination and harassment free workplace.
</li><li>Comply with responsibilities listed under the Aspetar&rsquo;s Code of Conduct.
</li><li>Assume any other responsibilities as directed by the direct supervisor.
</li></ul>Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:
<ul><li>Minimum experience of 5-7 years in which 2-3 years should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in a similar Industry.
</li><li>Must be well experienced and have sufficient knowledge of Orthobiological laboratory methods and techniques relevant to his/her specific job description.
</li><li>Must have specialized knowledge and experience related to handling / processing aseptic tissues, i.e. Stem cell culture, sub culturing, cell count, cell viability assay, cell maintenance &amp; cell freezing.
</li></ul>Skills and Abilities:
<ul><li>Excellent hand and eye co-ordination required, i.e. able to manipulate aseptic materials within isolators / laminar flow cabinets;
</li><li>Able to work in a restricted position for a substantial proportion of the working time.
</li><li>Meticulous and pays attention to detail.
</li><li>Ability to work shifts and demonstrable willingness to be placed on a 24-hour on-call roster, if required.
</li><li>Good interpersonal and communication skills.
</li><li>Good understanding of sciences and fundamental scientific principles related to orthobiological processes and analysis.
</li><li>Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
</li><li>Ability to work independently with initiative and to be adaptive to changes.
</li><li>Ability to multi-task and to work with frequent interruptions.
</li><li>Ability to work well under pressure.
</li><li>Previous experience working in the Middle East or within another culture or remote settings is preferable .
</li></ul>Education and Certification requirements:
<ul><li>Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or any other related filed.
</li><li>Fulfil all licensing requirements if required. Relevant Medical Licensure.</li></ul></div>
